Chandannagar-Ian’s gear up for the commencement of the preparation for Jagadhatri Puja

As it was published earlier, that the “Khar Bandha” attained its completion, with the trunk of the Mother’s body being erected. It was a congregation, since the organisers & artisans had to commence the claying process – where processed clays are administered all along the straws compiled structure. A rather viscous admixture of “Alluvial soil and husk” – is used as the first layer of claying, fondly known as “Ek Methe”.

Although there is no such religious custom in the methodology of administering the admixture, however Aurobindo Sangha always believes that it is the uppermost region – the trunk of the Mother Jagadhatri is considered to be the roost auspicious, hence the “Ek Methe” commenced from this region.

Mr. Sunil Nath, an exemplary in his art work decided to have a go at the bottomneath Elephant, and the same was accomplished with certain blinks of the gathered community. The straw compiled structure of the bottomneath elephant soon reckoned to be “Karindrasura”. It was the Lion which started appearing fearsome as the pale straw compiled lion structure was masked by the “Ek Methe”.

The organisers like Surojit, Chanchal, Debnath, Protik, Tumpa, Sudipto & others started whispering, “if it is so fearsome after “Ek Methe” – how would it look like after the finalisation of “Do Methe – Second Coating”. Soon they broke into laughter, a moment to rejoice, as everyone could perceive the thundering footsteps of the “Mother Of The Universe – Jagadhatri” on her way to this shelter waiting to be transformed into a Themed Temple”.

It is an old belief – “never ask, a woman about her age; a man about his wage, and a Chandannagar-ian about the theme of Jagadhatri Puja”.

The artisans were adulated with a thundering applause when the tedious “Ek Methe” assignment was accomplished. Now there is going to be a complete break till the Auspicious Bhatridwitiya – as the entire idol need to be completely dried before the “Do Methe – Second Coating” can be initiated.

A piece of cloth was hung as a veil to cover the front part of idol upholding the dignity of femineity.

The transformation within: the fervour of the celebrations is not limited within the organisers of Aurobindo Sangha’s Jagadhatri Puja; but an immense equal participation is being demonstrated by the Chandannagar Corporation in carrying out adjustments & maintainance throughout this erstwhile French Colony.

The writer has vividly observed the Road-Repair work being executed all along the one main entrance to this city – the Mankundu Station Road stretching from Mankundu railway Station to the Three-Point Crossing (Tematha) an interjunction on the Grand Trunk Road (G.T. Road). As reiterated several times, that it is the sheer dedication & discipline of the inhabitants which makes Chandannagar to be a Model Community.

The Road Repair Work is not only awarded to a contractor of repute, but is been continuously monitored by the Mayor-In-Council, his goodself Mr. Subhendu Mukhopadhyay popularly known as ‘Shovon’. He is in constant transition among the three crucial junctures – (i) point of Coal Tar Distillation, to ensure the requisite quality is being used, (ii) point of admixing, whether the correct proportions of the essentials are being mixed, (iii) place of repair, whether the admixture is being laid after scheduled surface cleaning & rolling of the road-roller at the optimum speed. He hardly finds time to wipe off his sweats.

(Mayor-In-Council, Mr. Subhendu Mukherjee, Custodian of Good Work)
