Dr. Vijay Dikshit is a highly experienced Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon with a career spanning over four decades. He completed his medical schooling (MBBS) and pursued post-graduation in surgery (MS, General Surgery), followed by super post-graduation (M.Ch Cardio-thoracic Surgery) from King George’s Medical College Lucknow University, India.
Professional Experience:
- Served as Chief Resident in General Surgery for 5 months in 1978 at the Department of Surgery, K.G. Medical College, Lucknow.
- Held positions of Chief Resident and Senior Resident of the Cardio-Thoracic Unit from 1978 to 1981.
- Appointed to the Pool for Scientists and Technologists Constituted by the Council Of Scientific and Industrial Research at Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery, K.G. Medical College, Lucknow from May to September 1981. During this time, he independently performed over 25 Open Heart Operations and assisted in more than 200 Open Heart Operations, along with numerous Thoracic and Vascular procedures.
- Worked as a Lecturer in Thoracic Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Lucknow University from 1982 to 1984. He was one of the pioneers in utilizing the Internal Mammary Artery Bypass for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery, a technique adopted after training in the USA.
- During his tenure as a Consultant at Apollo Hospital, Madras, he underwent advanced training overseas and participated in seminars and conferences.

For the past 15 years, all Coronary Bypass Surgeries have been executed utilizing the Beating Heart Surgery Technique, with Dr. Dikshit having completed over 8,500 CABG procedures using this method. Arterial grafts are routinely employed in all Cardiovascular Bypass Surgeries under his care.
In a remarkable feat between 1991 and 1993, Dr. Dikshit performed 362 consecutive Coronary Bypass Surgeries without any mortality or significant complications, setting a record in the field at the time.
Dr. Dikshit’s pioneering efforts extend to advancements in Mitral Valve Replacement techniques, including the highest number of operations conducted with Complete Chordal Preservation & Artificial Chordal Reconstruction. This innovative approach was presented at the Annual Conference of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery in Madras in February 2002.
In 1996, he performed the first-ever operation in South India involving the Thoracoscopic Closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus on a six-year-old male child, demonstrating his commitment to pushing the boundaries of surgical innovation.
A leader in the field, Dr. Dikshit is among the first practitioners and holds the most extensive experience in Stentless Bioprosthetic Valve Replacement Surgery for Aortic Valve disease in India. This state-of-the-art Tissue Heart Valve represents a cutting-edge technology not widely utilized in other Cardiac surgery centers across the country.
Dr. Dikshit’s remarkable skill and dedication were further exemplified by the successful Emergency Cardiac Surgery performed on a two-day-old infant suffering from severe complex Congenital Heart Disease. The child underwent two corrective surgeries, at 8 months and 4 years of age, achieving complete cardiac correction under Dr. Dikshit’s care.
In November 2013, Dr. Dikshit performed a successful Heart Transplant for a 21-year-old patient diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, further underscoring his commitment to delivering life-saving interventions at the forefront of cardiac care.
