Lawngtlai DLCC Meeting for 3-Month Saturation Campaign for Jan Suraksha Schemes

Lawngtlai : Today, a District Level Consultative Committee (DLCC) meeting was held at the DC Office Chamber in Lawngtlai to discuss the upcoming ‘Saturation Campaign’ for the ‘Jan Suraksha Schemes,’ which will be implemented over the next three months. The meeting was chaired by Pi Margaret J. Vanlalremmawii, SDO (Sadar).

During the meeting, Pi Margaret J. Vanlalremmawii shared updates with DLCC members and emphasized the importance of the Jan Suraksha Schemes, which are beneficial insurance schemes. She highlighted the need for banks to play a crucial role in promoting these schemes throughout Lawngtlai District. Notably, with Mizoram’s financial literacy rate still low, she stressed the importance of raising awareness about insurance through the Jan Suraksha Schemes (Social Security Scheme) and integrating financial literacy campaigns (FLC) into outreach efforts.

The Jan Suraksha Campaign is designed to be implemented effectively during this three-month period. DLCC members discussed strategies for enhancing bank outreach and community engagement. Pi Margaret J. Vanlalremmawii also mentioned that local Gram Sabhas would be instrumental in promoting the campaign, indicating that the DRDO would support these efforts.

Pu Joseph M. Soren, Lead District Manager (LDM) and Nodal Officer for Lawngtlai District, noted that the Jan Suraksha Campaign is set to run from 15th October 2024 to 15th January 2025. In Lawngtlai District, 44 Gram Panchayats are preparing to launch the campaign, and banks are expected to participate actively in this initiative. He also mentioned that regular reports would be submitted by the Lead District Manager (LDM) to track the campaign’s progress.

The Jan Suraksha Schemes were initiated as Social Security Schemes on 9th May 2015 by the Ministry of Finance. These schemes include two micro-insurance programs: the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). PMJJBY offers life insurance with an annual premium of Rs. 436, allowing for claims for death benefits. PMSBY, on the other hand, is an accidental insurance scheme with an annual premium of Rs. 20, which provides coverage for full and partial disabilities in the event of an accident.
