Governor Launches Anti-Drug Campaign – Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan By The Brahma Kumaris In Mizoram
Aizawl : Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati launched the anti-drug campaign ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ by the Brahma Kumaris in Mizoram at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan at 11:00 AM today.
In his address, Governor Kambhampati expressed concern that, while Mizoram is a peaceful state performing well on various human development indicators, the rising drug abuse issue is severely affecting young people and students. He remarked on the gravity of the situation, calling it deeply unfortunate.
The Governor recognized the ongoing efforts of the government, religious organizations, civil society groups, and NGOs, particularly the YMA, in addressing the drug problem in multiple ways. He emphasized the need for an even stronger and more collaborative approach, adding, “The involvement of the Brahma Kumaris in supporting the fight against drug abuse will bring a new dimension to our efforts. The Brahma Kumaris are known for their focus on spirituality and meditation, and their healthy lifestyles demonstrate strong resolve and discipline.” He also expressed admiration for their commitment to a life of purity and positive self-discipline.
Highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation among all stakeholders in combating drug abuse, the Governor urged the people of Mizoram to fully embrace anti-drug efforts with conviction. He encouraged teachers to actively participate in anti-drug initiatives and to create opportunities for the Brahma Kumaris to engage in school programs. He also advised students to avoid drugs and inspire others to do the same. He called on all individuals involved in the fight against drugs to remain fully committed to this cause.
At the event, Rajyogini BK Narmada, Centre In-Charge of Brahma Kumaris in Aizawl, shared words of gratitude, while Rajyogi Dr. Banarsil Sah, Secretary of the Medical Wing of Brahma Kumaris, Mount Abu, Rajasthan, highlighted the key objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Dr. Swapan Gupta, Associate Professor of Neurology at GB Pant Institute, New Delhi, gave a presentation on drug abuse and various ways to combat it. BK Vedhatri, Senior Faculty at Brahma Kumaris, Delhi, led a meditation session, followed by an oath-taking ceremony to pledge commitment to keeping Mizoram drug-free.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched on August 15, 2020, by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to raise mass awareness about the harms of substance abuse. On March 4, 2023, the Ministry and the Brahma Kumaris signed an MoU to promote the campaign’s message among students, women, and the youth.
Today’s event was attended by Mizoram University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, representatives from NGOs, Brahma Kumaris members, teachers, and students, among others.
