UBT Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi Defends Kejriwal, Criticizes BJP on Yamuna and Air Quality
Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has strongly defended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, particularly regarding the ongoing concerns about the Yamuna water crisis and Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. Speaking to ANI, Chaturvedi expressed her confidence in Kejriwal’s leadership and his ability to fulfill promises made to Delhi’s residents.
Support for Kejriwal on Environmental Issues
Chaturvedi highlighted the commitments made to Delhi over the years, stating, “We hope that in the coming times, the promises made to the people of Delhi will be fulfilled. If anyone can successfully implement them, it is clearly Arvind Kejriwal.”
She expressed her belief that Kejriwal would effectively address the environmental challenges affecting Delhi, particularly the cleaning of the Yamuna River and improving air quality. “When it comes to cleaning the Yamuna and tackling air pollution, I am confident that Mr. Kejriwal will be able to resolve these issues,” she stated, reinforcing her trust in his governance.
Criticism of BJP’s Governance
Taking a sharp dig at the BJP-led central government, Chaturvedi accused the party of failing to honor its electoral promises. She alleged that BJP leaders make commitments before elections but fail to deliver once in power. “We have repeatedly seen the BJP make promises to the people, only to forget them once they assume power,” she remarked.
She also pointed out BJP’s governance track record, claiming that their tenure has been riddled with unfulfilled pledges. “Their record in office is full of commitments that remain unimplemented,” she asserted, drawing a contrast between AAP’s efforts in Delhi and the BJP’s approach across the country.
Concerns Over Election Commission’s Integrity
In addition to her criticism of the BJP, Chaturvedi raised concerns over the impartiality of the Election Commission of India (ECI). She alleged that the institution was failing to ensure fair and transparent elections, saying, “The critical question today is whether people can still trust the Election Commission to conduct free and fair elections. This trust is now under scrutiny.”
She cited instances from Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi, where she claimed the BJP was allowed to violate election norms without facing consequences. “The BJP gets away with distributing cash incentives to voters, violating election rules, and yet the blame is always placed on Mr. Kejriwal and the opposition,” she said.
Chaturvedi accused the Election Commission of turning a blind eye to BJP’s electoral misconduct while being overly strict on opposition leaders. “The ruling party enjoys immunity, while opposition figures face harsh scrutiny,” she remarked, calling for greater accountability within the ECI.
Call for Election Commission to Restore Public Confidence
She urged the Election Commission to reflect on its actions and ensure it upholds democratic values. “I hope the Election Commission re-evaluates its approach and understands why the public has become skeptical—not just about elections, but also about those in high positions overseeing them,” she said.
Chaturvedi stressed the importance of transparency in electoral processes, emphasizing that restoring public confidence in the democratic system is crucial. Her remarks come at a time when opposition parties are increasingly questioning the credibility of election oversight in India.
