4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Delhi-NCR
Delhi : A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Delhi-NCR early this morning at 5:36 AM, causing strong tremors across the region. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the epicenter was near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, at a shallow depth of 5 km. Tremors were also felt in several parts of North India.
Following the quake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged residents to remain calm and adhere to safety precautions. “Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. I urge everyone to stay alert and follow safety guidelines. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation,” he stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
There are currently no reports of casualties or damage. However, officials have advised citizens to be prepared for possible aftershocks. Disaster response teams are on standby, and the Delhi government is coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to assess the situation.
Experts have urged residents to stay indoors during tremors, take cover under sturdy furniture, and avoid using elevators. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity to ensure public safety.
