Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Takes Serious Cognizance of Incident at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital

Inquiry Committee Formed; Strict Implementation of Charitable Hospital Scheme Ordered

Mumbai : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken serious note of the recent incident at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. He has ordered the formation of an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of the Joint Charity Commissioner of Pune to investigate the matter.

The Chief Minister also directed that if charitable hospitals fail to implement the Charitable Patient Scheme, as per the guidelines laid down by the High Court, strict action must be taken against them.

The inquiry will be conducted by a committee headed by the Joint Charity Commissioner of Pune. The committee will include the Deputy Secretary, Joint Desk Officer from the Charitable Hospital Help Desk – Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Superintendent of the Sir J.J. Hospital group in Mumbai, and a Deputy Secretary/Under Secretary from the Law and Judiciary Department, who will serve as member-secretaries of the committee.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the Principal Secretary of the Law and Judiciary Department and the Charity Commissioner to regulate and supervise the implementation of the Charitable Patient Scheme in accordance with the High Court’s directives.

The directive also states that all charitable hospitals must obtain approval from the “Charitable Hospital Help Desk” through an online system to ensure that reserved beds are made available for poor and underprivileged patients. Immediate instructions must be issued to all such hospitals regarding this. The investigation reports and recommendations submitted by the inspection teams formed by the Law and Judiciary Department must be acted upon without delay.

The government has approved the recruitment of 186 charitable health workers to be deployed in these hospitals. The recruitment process should be carried out immediately. Updated data regarding the Indigent Patient Fund (IPF) should be collected from the charitable hospitals and made available on the Charity Commissioner’s official website. Hospitals failing to implement the scheme should face strict action in line with the High Court’s orders.
