Distribution of Frozen Semen Doses of Brazilian Gir Bulls Begins Across Districts

Government Committed to Breed Improvement and Milk Production: Animal Husbandry Minister

Jaipur – Animal Husbandry and Cow Rearing Minister Shri Joraram Kumawat inaugurated the distribution of traditional frozen semen doses of high-genetic-quality Gir breed bulls, imported from Brazil, under the National Gokul Mission. The event took place on Friday at the RSLDB auditorium, where the minister presented a semen jar to Jaipur district. Director of the Animal Husbandry Department and CEO of RSLDB, Dr. Anand Sejra, was also present.

On the occasion, Shri Kumawat stated that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, the state government is making continuous efforts to support livestock farmers. He emphasized the government’s serious commitment to cattle breed improvement. As a result of these efforts, Rajasthan has received frozen semen doses of high-genetic-quality Gir bulls imported from Brazil through NDDB for the first time. These doses will be used for artificial insemination in pure Gir cattle in districts with a high Gir population, as per the state’s breeding policy.

He noted that these semen doses will lead to the birth of genetically superior calves, especially heifers with enhanced milk production. Currently, Gir cows in the state produce 15 to 20 liters of milk per day, but with these semen doses, the yield can increase to up to 50 liters per day.

Shri Kumawat added that the imported semen will initially be made available to livestock farmers at a subsidized cost of ₹100. Efforts will be made to import more high-quality Gir semen from Brazil to benefit a larger number of farmers.

He instructed officials to ensure that these doses are distributed not only to dairy farms but also directly to individual livestock farmers, thus improving their economic condition. He also emphasized proper record-keeping of the distributed doses to track their benefits and ensure future availability.

The minister also interacted with farmers and additional/joint directors from various districts via video conferencing.

According to the state’s breeding policy, this semen will be utilized in 23 districts, including Ajmer, Bhilwara, Tonk, Bharatpur, Pali, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Banswara, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, Pratapgarh, Jaipur, and Sikar. Senior officials from the Animal Husbandry Department and RSLDB were present at the event.
