Join the ‘Save Environment, Beautify Earth’ Campaign on World Earth Day!
Various Activities to Be Held Across the State from April 22 to May 1, 2025 – Environment and Climate Change Minister Pankaja Munde
Mumbai : To promote the conservation and protection of the environment, the Environment and Climate Change Department will organize the “Save Environment, Beautify Earth” (Environmental Bachao, Vasundhara Sajao) campaign across Maharashtra from April 22, 2025, World Earth Day, to May 1, 2025, Maharashtra Day. Minister Pankaja Munde urged everyone to participate in this initiative.
As part of the campaign, Minister Munde will personally join the cleanliness drive on April 22 at Powai Lake in Mumbai. She has called on all citizens to participate in this movement.
Join River, Nala, and Lake Cleaning Drives
Minister Munde said, “April 22 is World Earth Day. On this day, we are launching an excellent initiative through the Environment and Climate Change Department. From April 22, World Earth Day, to May 1, Maharashtra Day, various activities will take place. Just as we celebrate Navratri, worshiping the nine different forms of Goddess Durga, let us also dedicate these nine days to worshiping and preserving the Earth by organizing various activities. On April 22, I will start the cleanliness campaign at Powai Lake in Mumbai. From April 22 to 24, we will clean water sources in our localities, villages, towns, and cities, including rivers, streams, and lakes. I call on everyone—from Gram Panchayat workers to Zilla Parishad CEOs, Talathis to District Collectors, and Sarpanchs to MLAs, MPs, and ministers—to take part in this mission,” Munde urged.
She also encouraged government agencies, various organizations, and NGOs to join the initiative. “People’s representatives, officials, and social organizations involved in cleaning rivers, streams, and lakes will be honored at the district level by the guardian ministers after a flag hoisting ceremony. Outstanding contributors will also be recognized at the state level,” she added.
Recognition for Promoting Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Principles
From April 25 to 27, various organizations, government bodies, and public representatives will come together to promote the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. “Reduce means minimizing the use of harmful products, Reuse means using items that can be reused, and Recycle means reprocessing materials like water to benefit the environment. By following these principles, we can make a significant positive impact on the Earth,” Munde emphasized.
She also mentioned that those who have made excellent contributions in promoting these principles will be recognized on May 1 after the Maharashtra Day flag hoisting ceremony. “We will gather successful initiatives from across the state and celebrate the best ones. These practices will also be considered for future schemes,” she said.
Slogan Competition to Encourage Environmental Awareness
From April 28 to 30, a slogan competition will be held as part of the campaign. The best slogans will be honored on Maharashtra Day. These slogans will also be included in the Maharashtra Day procession and will be featured in the advertisements by the Environment and Climate Change Department. Three outstanding slogans from each district will be selected at the state level and used in the state’s environmental campaigns.
Join the Campaign from April 22 to May 1
Various activities will take place during this period. Minister Munde appealed for the participation of elected representatives and common citizens alike to make this campaign a success. “I urge everyone to take part in these activities,” she concluded.
