Health Minister Issues Directives in High-Level Meeting – Blood Transfusion System to Be Strengthened, Blood Group to Be Linked with ABHA ID

Jaipur : The blood transfusion system in all hospitals across the state will be further strengthened. To ensure zero errors in blood transfusion, necessary changes will be made to the existing SOPs, along with the implementation of technological innovations under the Rajasthan Digital Health Mission. These directives were given by Health and Medical Minister Mr. Gajendra Singh Khimsar during a high-level meeting held at the Health Bhawan on Monday.

Mr. Khimsar emphasized that the life of every patient admitted to a hospital is invaluable, and no negligence can be tolerated at any stage of treatment. Referring to the recent incident at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where a female patient was mistakenly administered the wrong blood, he took the matter seriously and issued strict instructions to ensure that no such incident happens in the future. He stressed the need for a more robust blood transfusion system.

During the meeting, it was informed that under the Rajasthan Digital Health Mission, efforts are underway to strengthen the medical infrastructure technologically. As part of this, the patient’s blood group will now be mandatorily included in the ABHA ID (Ayushman Bharat Health Account), ensuring the availability of blood and accuracy during emergency transfusions.

Strict Action for SOP Violations

The Health Minister further directed that SOPs for treatment in ICUs and critical care wards of government medical institutions must be followed rigorously and with seriousness. Senior doctors and senior residents should be present at all times in these wards. Only trained nursing and paramedical staff should be deployed to ensure high-quality patient care. Heads of medical institutions should regularly inspect these wards and the functioning of the blood banks, and any shortcomings found must be immediately addressed. Strict action must be taken against any personnel found negligent.

During the meeting, medical experts also shared various suggestions to further strengthen the blood transfusion system. Present at the meeting were Ms. Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary, Department of Medical and Health; Mr. Ambrish Kumar, Secretary, Medical Education; Mr. Iqbal Khan, Commissioner, Medical Education; and superintendents of hospitals affiliated with Sawai Man Singh Medical College, along with other senior officials.
