Maharashtra Health Dept Urges Hospitals to Stay Alert as Covid-19 Cases Rise

Mumbai – Following a surge of 84 new Covid-19 cases reported on Friday, the Maharashtra Public Health Department has issued an advisory asking hospitals across the state to prepare ICU beds, oxygen supplies, and other critical resources to manage potential patient load.

The advisory comes amid a steady rise in Covid cases, bringing the total number of infections in Maharashtra in 2025 to 681, with 467 active cases as of May 30. So far, 207 patients have recovered, and seven deaths have been reported.

While most new cases are mild or asymptomatic, the health department has urged people not to panic. Instead, it recommends taking basic precautions such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and washing hands frequently. Additionally, medical experts advise people who have not received a booster dose recently to consider getting vaccinated.

Health officials said that four sub-variants of Omicron are currently in circulation. Of the new 84 cases, Mumbai alone reported 32, followed by Pune Municipal Corporation with 19, Thane Municipal Corporation with 14, and a handful of cases spread across other regions including Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Raigad, Panvel, Nashik, Pimpri Chinchwad, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli.

Out of the seven reported deaths, six patients had pre-existing health conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, interstitial lung disease, stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hypocalcemic shock. The seventh death involved a 47-year-old woman who succumbed to fever and breathlessness.

At the national level, Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav assured the public that the central government is fully prepared to handle any situation. He stated that both the Union Health Ministry and the AYUSH Ministry are on high alert and are closely monitoring the evolving situation across all states.

With the increase in cases, authorities urge citizens to stay vigilant, follow health protocols, and seek medical advice if symptoms arise. While the situation remains under control, preparedness and public cooperation are key to preventing another large-scale outbreak.
