Jaipur : On the occasion of World Environment Day and Ganga Dashami, the statewide “Vande Ganga Water Conservation–People’s Campaign” will be inaugurated on Thursday (5 June). The state government has decided to operate the Vande Ganga Water Conservation–People’s Campaign across the state from 5 to 20 June.
District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has instructed departmental officials to ensure full preparation and coordination to make the campaign a success and transform it into a mass movement. Under the campaign, programs such as water worship ceremonies, kalash (sacred pot) processions, awareness drives, cleanliness campaigns, inauguration of water-harvesting structures, and groundbreakings for new structures will be held at the district’s water sources, rivers, streams, and ponds. By involving every village and every individual, the campaign will be shaped into a people’s movement.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has called upon philanthropists, public representatives, volunteer organizations, staff, and the general public in the district to join hands and make this a mass movement.
Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad, Mrs. Pratibha Verma, reported that development, Panchayati Raj, Forest, Water Resources, and other departments will inaugurate and inspect 1,778 projects costing ₹56.49 crore. In urban areas, voluntary labor, tree planting, and cleanliness drives will be organized at Galta Ji Tirth, Jagga ki Bawdi, Khaniya ki Bawdi, and other important sites. Simultaneously, approximately 1,949 projects totaling nearly ₹99 crore from various departments will be inaugurated and have their foundation stones laid. Under the campaign, tree-planting activities will also be conducted in 1,500 revenue villages.
Mrs. Verma added that additional activities such as cleaning statues of great figures, hospital sanitation drives, and distribution of tulsi (holy basil) saplings will be organized during the campaign. Water worship ceremonies will also be performed. Special programs to increase awareness and promote the conservation of traditional water sources will be conducted at the revenue-village level.
She noted that most departments have been assigned responsibilities to ensure the success of the Vande Ganga Water Conservation campaign. All public representatives have also been requested to participate, and self-help groups under Rajeevika will provide special assistance in raising awareness in rural areas.
