KTR Warns Telangana DGP: People Watching, BRS Will Return

BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao criticizes police over party worker’s arrest, vows judicial battle and promises to revisit “excesses” of the Congress government

In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) sent a clear warning to Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP), saying that the people of the state are witnessing the current administration’s excesses and that no government stays in power forever.

KTR’s remarks, posted on the social media platform X, came in response to the arrest of BRS activist Shashidhar Goud. Tagging the state’s top police official, KTR wrote, “Telangana people are observing all the excesses of the administration and the terrible precedents being set. Please remember no one is going to remain in the Government forever. Our day shall come again, and I promise you, every action will be reviewed.”

He added that BRS continues to place its faith in the judiciary and vowed to protect democratic rights, saying, “We have full faith in the judiciary and will continue to fight and defend our democratic rights.”

The statement was triggered by a post from former Director of Digital Media, Konatham Dileep, who shared details of Shashidhar Goud’s rearrest. Dileep noted that Goud was about to be released from Karimnagar jail on Wednesday evening when police from Ramagundam came to take him into custody again. However, seeing a large crowd outside the jail, the police reportedly turned back. The next morning, the Ramagundam police rearrested Goud from the same jail in what Dileep described as another “illegal case.”

Dileep alleged that Goud was being targeted for simply retweeting political content from the official BRS handle. “The tweet was purely political criticism—there was no obscenity or falsehood,” he wrote, adding that even military regimes would hesitate to engage in such suppression.

He further accused the Congress-led government in Telangana of stifling civil liberties and violating the freedom of expression.

Earlier, KTR had condemned the arrest and likened Revanth Reddy’s government to the Emergency era of 1975, warning that the current actions were setting dangerous precedents that would eventually face scrutiny.
