Home Minister Inspects Sairang-Khamrang-Kawnpui Road Widening Work

Aizawl, Aug 2025: Today, Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga visited the ongoing road widening work of the Sairang-Khamrang-Kawnpui (NH-6) stretch and inspected the site. He was accompanied by Pu T.B.C. Lalvenchhunga, Advisor to the Chief Minister, along with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Police Department. During the visit, a meeting was held with local leaders of Kawnpui and Khamrang, representatives from MTOA, and the Drivers Association to discuss the progress and further plans.

The Home Minister acknowledged the hardships faced by the public and traders due to the poor condition of the road between Kawnpui and Sairang. He emphasized that the government is committed to speeding up the ongoing road widening works to alleviate these difficulties. He expressed gratitude to the community leaders, volunteers, farmers, and traders for their cooperation and support. He also mentioned that coordination with Kolasib DC Office is being maintained to manage traffic and ensure the smooth supply of essential goods during the construction phase, especially along the Vairengte-Sairang corridor, which is severely affected.

According to the Home Minister’s directive, intensive work on road widening will be undertaken from August 4-9. During these five days, PWD and NHIDCL will fully utilize their workforce and resources to expedite the work. For safety reasons, the transportation of large cargo trucks (14-wheelers) will be restricted during this period. However, essential commodities transported in smaller trucks will be allowed. From August 4-6, no sand or gravel trucks will be allowed on the main road; instead, they will have to use the Kawnpui-Serkhan-Durtlang alternate route. The traffic flow will be strictly monitored by the Aizawl and Kolasib Traffic Police.

MLA Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga will act as the Single Point of Contact for overseeing the progress of the road works. Local organizations like the YMA from Kawnpui, Khamrang, Mualkhang, and Sairang will also actively participate in supporting the construction activities. The Minister mentioned that those contributing to the workforce will be provided with honorariums in recognition of their efforts.

The widening of this road is being carried out by BR Goyal Infrastructure under the supervision of NHIDCL, while Mizoram PWD is providing all necessary assistance. From the PWD, Er. Eddie C. Zothansanga, Superintending Engineer, Highway Circle-I, Executive Engineer – 2, along with SDOs and JEs, are stationed on-site to oversee the work.
