Mithun Chakraborty Slams Trinamool Over Padma Shri Theft, Nurse’s Death and Law & Order Issues

Hooghly, Aug 2025 : BJP Central Committee member and actor Mithun Chakraborty on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over a series of recent incidents in West Bengal, including the theft of former swimmer Bula Choudhary’s Padma Shri award, the suspicious death of a nurse in Singur, and growing concerns about law and order.

Speaking at the BJP’s organisational meeting in Serampore, Mithun expressed outrage at the theft at Choudhary’s ancestral home in Hindmotor. Several medals and souvenirs, including her Padma Shri award, were stolen earlier this week. “The thief should be ashamed. If the person has even a little humanity left, they should return it,” Mithun said. The Chandannagar Commissionerate Police has registered a case and the CID has also taken over the investigation.

Turning to the incident in Singur, where a nurse recently died under mysterious circumstances in a private nursing home, Mithun questioned the state’s handling of the case. “It would have been better if the CBI were involved. Fanaticism is everywhere. Change is the only solution. Sanatanis have woken up, and that is why Trinamool is scared,” he remarked. The nurse’s body was sent to AIIMS Kalyani for post-mortem examination on Saturday.

Mithun also condemned an incident in Belgharia, where 22-year-old Aditya Mohanty was attacked after reportedly opposing an extortion attempt. Miscreants allegedly struck him on the head with a brick late at night. Mohanty is currently undergoing treatment in hospital, while police have launched a search for the culprits. “There is no such thing as law and order in the state. People are beaten simply for protesting,” Mithun said.

The veteran actor-turned-politician used the platform to urge people to demand accountability from the ruling party, stressing that Bengal needs “real change” to restore peace and safety.
