Minister Lalrinpuii Distributes Smartphones To WCD Field Functionaries

Aizawl, Aug 2025: The Department of Women & Child Development (WCD) today organized a programme at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall titled “Refresher Meeting for Early Childhood Care and Education & Distribution of Smartphones to Field Functionaries under Women & Child Development.” The event included a training session on Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) and the formal distribution of smartphones to field-level staff. Minister Pi Lalrinpuii graced the occasion as the chief guest.

In her address, Minister Lalrinpuii appreciated the efforts of WCD staff who worked tirelessly to make the provision of smartphones possible. She highlighted the importance of smartphones in improving efficiency, coordination, and ease of work within the department, stressing that these devices are not merely distributed items but essential tools to enhance service delivery. She urged all field functionaries to use them effectively and with dedication to serve the people of Mizoram.

The smartphones are meant for Anganwadi Workers and other field functionaries across Mizoram. The Minister expressed hope that the devices would strengthen the department’s functioning and support initiatives for the welfare of women and children. To mark the launch, smartphones were formally handed over to 10 Anganwadi Workers from Aizawl Urban ICDS Project and Tlangnuam ICDS Project.

The programme included a training session on Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE), along with sessions on the use of the Poshan Tracker app. After the training, the smartphone distribution ceremony was conducted. The devices are designated for use by Anganwadi Workers, Circle Officers, and Poshan 2.0 Block Coordinators, with a plan to cover all 27 ICDS projects across the state.

Secretary Pi Lalzarmawii (Social Welfare, Women & Child Development Department), who presided over the function, noted that the distribution of smartphones marks a significant step in strengthening departmental work and aligns Mizoram with global standards of progress. She urged functionaries to make full use of the devices for official purposes, improve reporting and monitoring, and ensure transparency in field-level work.

Director Pi Zoramthangi Chhangte (Women & Child Development) gave a presentation on the role and responsibilities of Anganwadi Workers. She underlined the qualities expected from them—dedication, community service, and leadership—and encouraged them to maintain proper record-keeping, child nutrition (SNP) management, coordination with local committees (Mothers’ Committees, Poshan Panchayats, and village coordination groups), effective communication, time management, and active involvement in child care and education.

Joint Director Pi Sailopari (Women & Child Development) proposed the vote of thanks, bringing the programme to a close.
