A Home of Her Own Gave Savita New Strength in Life
A vital initiative for rehabilitating Naxal-affected families and bringing them into the mainstream
Raipur, Sept 2025 – The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is not just a housing scheme, but a foundation of dignity and new hope. The scheme has benefitted both families affected by Naxal violence and surrendered Naxalites, enabling them to move towards a secure future free from fear.
Savita Yadav shared her story, saying, “My husband, Lakhan Lal Yadav, used to work as a laborer to support our family. But one day, Naxalites accused him of being a police informer and killed him. It was unbearable for me. I lost the support of my family, my children’s future plunged into darkness, and I didn’t even have a roof over my head. But the government of Vishnu Deo has taken an important initiative to rehabilitate surrendered Naxalites and Naxal-affected families, helping us connect with the mainstream. This has given me new strength to live again.”
Under the special initiative of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, families affected by Naxal violence and surrendered Naxalites are being provided safe housing and a dignified life through PMAY (Gramin). Savita Yadav, a resident of Jokapath village, Shankargarh Janpad Panchayat, Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, is a strong example.
Her husband, Lakhan Lal Yadav, was brutally killed by Naxalites who accused him of being a police informer. After this tragic incident, her family was left in grief and fear. Struggling under harsh conditions, Savita was sanctioned a house under PMAY. She completed the construction on time and today her family lives under a safe roof.
With tears in her eyes after receiving her new home, Savita said, “The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has given us both a safe roof and the confidence to live. Our life used to be normal, but everything collapsed after my husband’s death. Now, we can once again live with security and hope.”
It is noteworthy that, with the initiative of CM Vishnudev Sai, the Central Government has approved houses under PMAY (Gramin) for both victim families and surrendered Naxalites. In Balrampur-Ramanujganj district alone, Savita now owns a permanent house of her own. So far, 6 surrendered Naxalites and 19 families affected by Naxal violence have benefitted from the scheme.
These houses have not only provided physical security to families but also restored their dignity and given them the confidence to live with self-respect in society.
