Trump Demands Microsoft Remove Head of Global Affairs Lisa Monaco, Labels Her “Threat to US Security”
New Delhi, Sept 2025 : Former US President Donald Trump has publicly called for Microsoft Corp. to fire its Head of Global Affairs, Lisa Monaco, describing her as “corrupt,” “deranged,” and “a menace to US national security.”
Trump made the statements on his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming that Monaco’s senior role at Microsoft, a company with substantial government contracts, gives her access to sensitive information she cannot be trusted to handle. He further stated that he has already revoked Monaco’s security clearances and barred her from federal properties.
According to reports, Monaco, who joined Microsoft in May, oversees the company’s global government engagements after a long tenure in public service. She served as the 39th Deputy Attorney General under President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland — a fact that Trump reportedly views as her “biggest crime.”
Media outlets suggest that it is unclear why Trump chose this moment to target Monaco, though it is possible he has only recently become aware of her role at Microsoft. A Verge report noted, “After successfully manipulating Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan and eventually failing to cancel Jimmy Kimmel, President Donald Trump has named his next target for retribution: Microsoft head of global affairs Lisa Monaco.”
The report also hinted at broader tensions between Trump and Microsoft. While the company has largely avoided direct confrontation with him, it recently scaled back its cooperation with the Israeli military amid criticism over mass surveillance of Palestinian civilians.
Additionally, Trump’s H1B visa policies have sparked frustration in the US tech sector. Earlier this month, Microsoft advised employees on H-1B and H-4 visas who are currently outside the US to return immediately ahead of the September 21 deadline, when a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas is set to take effect.
Monaco’s critics under Trump argue that her government experience and corporate role could pose security risks, while Microsoft has not publicly commented on the former president’s remarks. The incident highlights growing tensions between Trump and major US tech firms as they navigate federal regulations, international operations, and immigration policies.
