A Unique Gift: Delhi Trip for Children Who Lost Maternal Warmth
Emotional Cultural Program Shines at Maharashtra Sadan
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : This evening at Maharashtra Sadan turned into a heart-warming celebration filled with a special kind of joy. A short cultural program held at the Sadan carried deep emotional significance — it marked the fulfilment of a beautiful dream cherished by 26 children from ‘Sanjkalp Pratishthan – Sawali’ in Ahilyanagar. These children, deprived of parental warmth, had long dreamed of visiting Delhi — a dream that has now been fulfilled thanks to the generosity of compassionate officers and donors.
‘Sawali’, run by Sankalp Pratishthan in Ahilyanagar, is a voluntary organisation that cares for children without parents, children of separated families, sugarcane labourers, and single parents. A few days ago, R. Vimala, Resident Commissioner and Secretary of the Maharashtra Government in New Delhi, visited the institution. During this visit, she interacted affectionately with the children. While speaking openly with her, the children expressed their wish to see the nation’s capital. Their heartfelt desire deeply moved Mrs. Vimala, and she immediately resolved to make it come true.
“These children, with their painful backgrounds, had already made a place in my heart. When I heard their desire to visit Delhi, I was overwhelmed. I promised myself that I would definitely let them experience the nation’s capital,” Mrs. Vimala had said during her visit. Her empathetic words soon turned into action. With her initiative and under the leadership of institution president Nitesh Bansode, 26 children from ‘Sawali’ arrived in Delhi on November 3. The group included young children aged six to seven and college-going boys and girls. Over the past four days, they visited various important buildings and tourist attractions in Delhi.
This evening marked a uniquely memorable end to their extraordinary trip. At Maharashtra Sadan, the children expressed their overflowing joy through a delightful cultural program. They sang songs, performed dances, and shared heartfelt reflections. Their faces radiated the happiness of new experiences and cherished memories — a sight that deeply moved the dignitaries present.
Sharing her thoughts, Sejal Jagtap said, “Seeing Delhi was my dream… today it has come true. We may be without parents, but we belong to this country… and we have every right to grow and achieve.” Another girl, Durga Rajput, said, “I will cherish the affection I received over these past four days for the rest of my life. Now I know… I can do anything!”
During the program, Mrs. Vimala spent time interacting warmly with all the children and understanding their emotions. Also present were Hemraj Bagul, Director of Maharashtra Information Centre; Assistant Resident Commissioner Nitin Shende; Smita Shelar; Manager Pramod Kolapte; institution president Nitesh Bansode; and all officials and staff members of Maharashtra Sadan.
