Taliban Says Peace Talks With Pakistan Collapse, Blames Islamabad for ‘Irresponsible’ Stance
Nov 2025 : Afghanistan’s Taliban government announced on Saturday that the latest round of peace talks with Pakistan in Turkey had broken down, accusing Islamabad of adopting an “irresponsible and uncooperative” approach during the negotiations.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement on social media that Pakistan attempted to shift its security burdens onto Afghanistan while refusing to accept responsibility for its own internal challenges. “During the discussions, the Pakistani side attempted to shift all responsibility for its security to the Afghan government, while showing no willingness to take responsibility for either Afghanistan’s security or its own,” Mujahid wrote. “The irresponsible and uncooperative attitude of the Pakistani delegation has not yielded any results.”
Islamabad has yet to officially comment on the Taliban’s claim. However, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar suggested on Friday that the talks were faltering, arguing that Afghanistan had failed to honour commitments to curb cross-border militancy. “Pakistan shall continue to exercise all options necessary to safeguard the security of its people and its sovereignty,” he said.
Delegations from both countries met in Istanbul on Thursday in an effort to finalise a truce first agreed on October 19 in Qatar. The negotiations came after the deadliest border clashes between the two neighbours since the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021.
The collapse of the talks underscores the deepening tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, with both sides accusing each other of undermining regional security at a time when diplomatic channels remain strained.
