Jaishankar Meets US Secretary of State Rubio in Canada; US Labels Delhi Red Fort Blast a Terrorist Attack, Praises India’s Probe

Hamilton, Nov 2025 : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has arrived in Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, where he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Following their meeting, Secretary Rubio described the recent explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro station as a “terrorist attack” and commended India’s swift and professional investigation into the incident.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Rubio said, “Clearly, this was a terrorist attack. A car packed with highly explosive materials detonated, killing several people.” He praised India’s response to the tragedy, saying, “They should be commended. They are conducting the investigation thoughtfully, carefully, and very professionally. I believe they will soon release all the facts.”

Rubio also confirmed that the United States had offered to assist India with the investigation. “We’ve offered help, but I think they are very capable of handling these investigations on their own,” he added. His remarks came shortly after his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, during which the two leaders discussed regional security and counterterrorism cooperation.

Jaishankar shared a photo of the meeting on the social media platform X, describing it as a productive exchange. He thanked Secretary Rubio for his condolences on the victims of the Delhi blast, writing, “Appreciate your solidarity and understanding at this difficult time.”

On Monday, a powerful explosion rocked the area near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro station, killing eight people and injuring over 20. The blast, which authorities confirmed was the result of a car bombing, has been declared a terrorist attack by India’s Union Cabinet.

In a statement, the Cabinet condemned the “heinous terrorist act” carried out by anti-national elements. It said, “The Cabinet directs that the incident be investigated with utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their accomplices, and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay.”

When asked whether the attack might heighten tensions between India and Pakistan, Rubio acknowledged the concern but emphasized restraint. “We are aware of the possibility,” he said, while commending India’s measured approach. “Their response has been extremely balanced, cautious, and highly professional.”

The Red Fort blast marks one of the most serious terrorist incidents in the capital in recent years. Indian security agencies are continuing their investigation, with early reports suggesting the use of advanced explosives and a coordinated operation.
