Mizoram State University Likely To Be Established In Lunglei – Chief Minister Chairs High Powered Committee Meeting In Lunglei
Lunglei, Nov 2025: Today, the High Powered Committee (HPC) held a meeting chaired by its Chairman, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, in the High Powered Committee Conference Hall, Lunglei.
The Chief Minister stated that the government intends to establish the main campus of Mizoram State University in Lunglei, as it is the strong desire of the people of Lunglei. Although the Mizoram State University Bill passed in the Assembly indicates that the headquarters will be in Aizawl, the public from Lunglei and the southern region want the university to be set up in Lunglei. Therefore, he said, the government plans to amend the law as required and proceed with establishing the main campus in Lunglei. The Chief Minister will hold a press conference in Lunglei to further clarify the matter.
HPC Vice Chairman and MLA Pu V. Malsawmtluanga said this meeting is part of the Chief Minister’s plan to hold HPC meetings in all district headquarters. He mentioned that the Council of Ministers has already held a meeting in Lunglei as part of this initiative and expressed gratitude for the respect and importance being given to Lunglei town.
HPC Member Pu R. Lalrochama expressed appreciation to the Mizoram government on behalf of the Committee. He acknowledged government initiatives such as the progress of Mizoram Engineering College at Pukpui, improvements in the Lunglei Water Supply system, and the government’s efforts on the Aizawl–Thenzawl–Lunglei Road. He stated that many people have been praying for the Mizoram State University headquarters to be located in Lunglei, and hearing that it will now happen is a joyous moment.
Today’s meeting reviewed the progress of the proposed Lunglei Bypass Road and discussed future steps. Other issues deliberated included the construction of a new shed at Serkawn Bazar, establishment of a Cooperative Training Centre in Lunglei, and the strengthening of Government Lunglei College.
The Chief Minister also spoke on the possibility of establishing an airport in the southern region of Mizoram. He explained that the government is examining potential sites in South Mizoram and the adjoining Myanmar border area to determine feasibility.
The meeting also discussed several other important matters aimed at improving the functioning and effectiveness of the High Powered Committee.
Those present at the meeting included Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Minister of IPR, P&S; MLAs Pu Lalramliana Papuia and Pu T. Lalhlimpuia; HPC members; and Member Secretary Pi Navneet Mann, IAS.
