Umar’s Aide Jasir Bilal Wani Seeks Permission to Meet Lawyers at NIA HQ
New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Jasir Bilal Wani, close aide of Delhi blast mastermind Dr Umar Muhammad, has moved an application before the NIA court requesting permission to meet his lawyers at the agency’s headquarters, sources said on Saturday.
The Patiala House NIA court is expected to hear his application later in the day.
Wani, who was arrested on November 17 in Srinagar, has been described by the National Investigation Agency as an active co-conspirator in the terror plot. On November 18, the court remanded him to 10 days of NIA custody, days after the powerful blast near Delhi’s Red Fort claimed 13 lives.
According to the NIA, Wani allegedly played a crucial technical role in the wider conspiracy. Investigators have found that he assisted in modifying drones, experimenting with explosive delivery mechanisms, and attempting to develop rudimentary rocket systems shortly before the deadly car bomb explosion. Officials say his expertise was instrumental in advancing the operational capabilities of the terror module.
A resident of Qazigund, Anantnag district (J&K), Wani reportedly worked closely with Dr Umar Muhammad Nabi, helping plan, coordinate, and fine-tune the execution of the attack. His arrest is considered a major breakthrough as the NIA attempts to map the full network behind the bombing.
Multiple NIA teams are currently pursuing leads across several states, conducting raids and interrogations to identify all individuals linked to the conspiracy. The agency is examining digital evidence, communications, and financial trails to establish the broader terror infrastructure involved.
Meanwhile, investigators have confirmed a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) link to the November 10 explosion. Police sources reveal that a JeM operative trained the accused in bomb-making techniques and guided the module remotely during the planning stages.
A startling revelation from the probe suggests that the group was preparing around 200 bombs intended to detonate simultaneously across Delhi and several North Indian states. According to intelligence inputs, Pakistan’s ISI had selected a JeM handler specifically to train the Faridabad module responsible for assembling the explosives.
With the possibility of a much larger attack being foiled, the NIA and state police forces have intensified efforts to dismantle the remaining parts of the terror network. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials calling it one of the most complex terror cases in recent years.
