Women for Tree Scheme: A Major Step Towards Greenery and Self-Reliance Through Women’s Participation Under Amrit Mission
Raipur, Dec 2025 : The ambitious initiative “Women for Tree” under the central government’s Amrit Mission is emerging as an effective model for women’s socio-economic empowerment and environmental conservation in Chhattisgarh. The successful implementation of this scheme in Balod district showcases how women’s active participation can promote greenery, cleanliness, and sustainable development across the state.
Under this scheme, 6,950 trees have been planted across eight urban local bodies in Balod district. Women’s self-help groups have been entrusted with the responsibility of plant care, irrigation, protection, and regular maintenance. This hands-on involvement has significantly improved plant survival rates and increased local environmental awareness.
To promote women’s employment, the scheme has provided regular work to 66 women, with each worker receiving a monthly remuneration of ₹8,000, strengthening their family’s financial stability. Women have also been provided with the necessary work materials, including sarees, jackets, shoes, and a complete toolkit (spade, hoe, pickaxe, and shovel). Many women reported that this income helps them meet their children’s educational needs and household expenses.
The district administration has stated that in the future, tree plantation activities will be expanded, engaging more women and creating additional employment opportunities. Technical training and guidance will also be provided to ensure the quality and survival of the plants.
Mr. Mobin Ali, Chief Municipal Officer of Balod Municipal Council, said the scheme is not only accelerating environmental conservation but also serving as a strong vehicle for women’s empowerment. He emphasized that this initiative is crucial for establishing Balod as a model district in greenery and cleanliness. He also appealed to citizens to contribute to rainwater harvesting, water source cleanliness, and protection efforts to strengthen local water structures.
The district administration has called upon all citizens, institutions, and social organizations across the state to join the Women for Tree campaign and contribute to building a green Chhattisgarh.
