Farmers of Durg District Advancing on the Path of Prosperity Through Horticultural Crops
Raipur, December 2025 : Farmers in Durg district are rapidly shifting towards horticultural crops. With subsidies and technical guidance received under the horticulture promotion schemes of the central and state governments, farmers are achieving better yields and becoming economically stronger. The district has recorded significant expansion in oil palm, fruit crops, vegetables, and floriculture.

Under the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm, oil palm plantation has been carried out on 95.04 hectares belonging to 47 farmers in the year 2025–26. Last year, 37 farmers were benefited under 74.61 hectares.
In Temri village of Dhamdha development block, farmer Shri Yogesh Sahu planted oil palm on 8 acres with departmental subsidy. He harvests the crop every one and a half to two months and earns ₹1.5 to 2 lakh per harvesting cycle. Inspired by his success, many other farmers in the district are now adopting this crop.
Under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), 99 farmers are benefiting from the expansion of banana, papaya, and dragon fruit cultivation over 152 hectares. In the same scheme, 58 farmers have gained better income opportunities through the expansion of tomato, brinjal, and onion cultivation over 64 hectares.
Additionally, 71 farmers are cultivating marigold flowers on 50 hectares, achieving remarkable yields. Shri Arun Kumar from Malpurikala village has earned good income by producing marigold on 2 hectares.
Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), 46 selected farmers have benefited from cultivating grafted brinjal and tomato. Shri Hitesh Tok from Temri village, after receiving guidance from the Horticulture Department, cultivated grafted brinjal on 9 acres. He achieved 40 tonnes of production per acre, earning an income of approximately ₹48 lakh.
Under the State-sponsored Integrated Horticulture Development Scheme, farmers are planting fruit-bearing trees such as lemon, guava, jackfruit, mango, and amla on their unused land, which will create new income sources for them in the future.
Horticulture-based farming in Durg district is not only strengthening the livelihood of farmers but also giving a new boost to the rural economy.
