Chief Minister Launches Mara Girls Hostel and New Schools in Aizawl

Aizawl, December 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma inaugurated the Mara Girls Hostel at the Mara Boys Hostel campus in Aizawl Zotlang Veng, along with eight new school buildings and six renovated school facilities in the MADC area. This initiative aims to enhance educational infrastructure under the PMJVK scheme.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to the welfare and education of the Mara community. With these new facilities, around 3,200 Mara students are expected to benefit from improved learning environments. The Mara Girls Hostel, funded and managed by the state government, will provide safe accommodation for female students, addressing both educational and safety needs. Several Mara students have already demonstrated strong academic results, including in the MPSC exams, and the new facilities are expected to further support their success.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of systematic planning and monitoring. A dedicated Project Monitoring Committee has been overseeing the construction of these facilities. So far, 87 projects have been completed under this initiative, with significant milestones already achieved. The current phase includes the new hostel and school constructions, which have been implemented efficiently to ensure timely completion.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has acknowledged the initiative as a model project for minority education development. Earlier, on July 6, Minister of State for Minority Affairs Pu George Kurian had laid the foundation for two initial projects. The current phase, overseen by the Chief Minister, involves a total investment of Rs. 30 crore. The Mara Girls Hostel in Delhi has also been inaugurated under this programme, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to Mara students.

Dr. K. Beichhua, MLA of Siaha, praised the Chief Minister for the initiative, while Pu A. Viahra, SE, MADC, presented a detailed technical report on the constructions.

The new Mara Girls Hostel is built with RCC structures and includes 120 rooms, dormitories, and a conference hall, with an estimated cost of Rs. 8.07 crore.

The eight new school buildings have been constructed with RCC structures at a total cost of Rs. 5.76 crore, each building having 12 classrooms.

Additionally, six renovated school facilities, equipped with smart classrooms, have been developed at a cost of Rs. 8.59 crore, enhancing the quality of education and modern learning facilities for students in the area.

Pu R. Lalchhanhima, Additional Secretary of the DC & MA, commended the project as a significant step toward improving educational infrastructure and opportunities for the Mara community.
