Sarpanches from Bastar Division Witness Democratic Process in the New Assembly BuildingDeputy Chief Minister Meets Sarpanches
Raipur, December 2025 : Sarpanches from various Gram Panchayats of the Bastar division today visited the newly constructed Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly building and observed the functioning of the Assembly and democratic processes at close quarters. On this occasion, the sarpanches also met Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma.
With the objective of strengthening faith in democracy among the people of Bastar, sarpanches representing different villages of the Bastar division were taken on a tour of the new Assembly building on the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma.
During the visit, the sarpanches were given detailed information about the proceedings of the House, Question Hour, discussions, and the decision-making process. For these grassroots-level public representatives who play a vital role in strengthening democracy at the village level, the experience proved to be highly inspiring. The Deputy Chief Minister held detailed discussions with them about their experiences, during which the sarpanches said that witnessing the Assembly’s functioning firsthand gave them a better understanding of public service and governance. They appreciated the positive and constructive manner in which issues and problems are discussed by both sides, saying it reinforced their belief that representatives raise and address public concerns effectively.
Interacting with the sarpanches, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that Gram Panchayats are the foundation of democracy and that the role of sarpanches is extremely important in the successful implementation of rural development schemes. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to the development of the Bastar division, public welfare schemes, and the empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions.
Expressing gratitude to the state government and the Deputy Chief Minister for this opportunity, the sarpanches said that such experiences would inspire them to work with better leadership and greater accountability in their respective villages.
