New Delhi, Dec 2025 : Even Santa Claus could not withstand Delhi’s toxic air. In a striking protest against the national capital’s worsening pollution, Santa fell ill in Connaught Place and collapsed after being shown the city’s alarming Air Quality Index (AQI), forcing him to don a gas mask to protect himself from the poisonous air. Once he recovered, Santa returned to the streets alongside AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, MLA Sanjeev Jha and other leaders to distribute toffees.

It turned a festive symbol into a clear message against the BJP government’s failure, with AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj saying the BJP administration is as “very poor” as Delhi’s air and must resign, not apologise.

Speaking in Connaught Place on Wednesday, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said Santa Claus arrived in India and the national capital before Christmas but fell ill immediately due to pollution. “With great difficulty, his health improved, and then he had to wear an industrial-grade mask to distribute chocolates to children in Connaught Place,” he said.

The AAP Delhi Unit Chief added that when Santa Claus was shown Delhi’s AQI levels, he collapsed. “Now Santa Claus is wearing an industrial mask and distributing toffees to small children. The AAP wants to tell the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi to start working. By manipulating AQI figures, numbers can be reduced on paper, but pollution cannot be reduced. People have given the BJP government one chance after careful consideration, but the BJP government is failing completely,” he noted.

Saurabh Bharadwaj further said that doctors, hospitals and medical professionals are unanimously stating that people in Delhi are falling sick due to pollution, and even the Supreme Court has today directed the government to work on this issue. “From Connaught Place and Janpath to every part of Delhi, the AQI is in the very poor category, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s administration is also very poor. The BJP government has failed entirely,” he said.

Taking aim at the Environment Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj added, “Manjinder Singh Sirsa folding his hands and apologising will not solve anything. He must resign.”

Santa Claus also shared his experience, saying that even after wearing a mask he was finding it difficult to breathe. “Pollution levels have risen so much that a child is inhaling smoke equivalent to 15 cigarettes every day. Children who have never even seen such things are becoming victims of this pollution,” Santa Claus said. He added that Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa was apologising to the people of Delhi because he has failed completely to control the pollution crisis.
