Bandi Sanjay Welcomes SIT Move in Phone Tapping Case, Questions Government’s Resolve to Take Probe to Its Logical End

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and senior BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday welcomed reports that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone tapping case is preparing to issue notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). However, he expressed serious doubts over whether the Telangana government would allow the investigation to reach its logical and lawful conclusion.

Reacting to the development through a post on social media platform X, Bandi Sanjay alleged that the alleged phone tapping was not limited to political surveillance but had far-reaching personal and social consequences. He accused KCR and KTR of ordering the tapping of phones of several leaders, including himself, and claimed that the illegal surveillance had led to discord and distress in many families across the state.

The BJP leader stated that the alleged actions crossed all ethical and legal boundaries when, according to him, even the phones of his daughter and son-in-law were tapped. He said such actions not only violated personal privacy but also undermined and corrupted the integrity of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), which is meant to function as a professional intelligence agency.

Bandi Sanjay was referring to allegations that phones belonging to members of KCR’s own family, including his daughter K. Kavitha and son-in-law, were also placed under surveillance during the BRS regime. He said these revelations indicated the scale and seriousness of the alleged misuse of state machinery.

He further alleged that the SIB was misused to blackmail and extort money from contractors and political leaders. According to him, these allegations go beyond political rivalry and point to systemic abuse of power for personal and financial gain. He stressed that these aspects must also be thoroughly investigated.

Questioning the intent of the current government, Bandi Sanjay asked whether the SIT would merely issue notices as a formality and then allow the matter to fade away. “Will there be a comprehensive investigation to identify and punish those responsible? That remains doubtful,” he remarked, adding that despite the phone tapping case being in public discourse for a long time, it has continued to drag on without visible outcomes.

Drawing a comparison, he said that while television serials that started airing around the same time as the phone tapping revelations have already concluded, the case itself has shown little progress. He argued that this delay raises serious concerns about political interference and lack of will.

The Union Minister said that investigation officials must be given complete freedom to function without pressure or influence. Only then, he said, would it be possible to uncover the full conspiracy behind the alleged phone tapping and restore public confidence in democratic institutions.

Bandi Sanjay recalled that he had appeared before the SIT in August to record his statement as a witness. Following his appearance, he had alleged that during the BRS regime, phones were tapped under the pretext of monitoring Maoist activities, while in reality political leaders, lawyers, businessmen, university professors, and even actors were placed under surveillance.

He further claimed that massive amounts of money running into thousands of crores were looted through this alleged phone tapping network and that hundreds of crores were seized by monitoring political leaders’ communications.

Reiterating his demand for accountability, Bandi Sanjay said the alleged misuse of the SIB for personal and political interests was a grave betrayal of public trust and must be exposed fully through an impartial and time-bound investigation.
