KTR Slams Revanth Reddy Government Over Irrigation Mismanagement, Accuses Congress of Evading Accountability

Hyderabad, Dec 2025 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of having “zero understanding” of river water management and describing the state’s irrigation ministers as “dangerously ignorant.” Addressing a felicitation programme for newly elected Sarpanches, Deputy Sarpanches and Ward Members at the BRS party office in Nalgonda, KTR said the Congress government’s failures were becoming increasingly evident at the grassroots level.

Congratulating the newly elected local body representatives, Rama Rao said their victory had infused renewed confidence and energy into the BRS cadre. He asserted that the party’s strong performance reflected public dissatisfaction with the Congress government’s governance and broken promises.

KTR alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led government was indulging in diversionary politics and orchestrating “case dramas” only because it was unable to respond to serious questions raised by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) on irrigation projects, water sharing, and overall governance. He challenged the Chief Minister to stop indulging in behind-the-scenes leaks and come forward openly to state what cases he intended to pursue.

“You are also the Home Minister. If you have the courage, come before the cameras and speak directly instead of hiding behind whispers and planted stories,” KTR said, adding that such tactics only exposed the government’s insecurity.

Taking strong exception to the handling of Krishna river water issues, KTR said the Chief Minister lacked even basic knowledge of river water management and interstate water-sharing mechanisms. He ridiculed irrigation ministers for publicly admitting that they were unprepared to answer questions on water disputes and for making what he termed “absurd and irresponsible” statements. According to KTR, these remarks not only misled the public but also showed how disconnected the government was from the concerns of farmers.

KTR maintained that while KCR has consistently fought for Telangana’s rightful share of Krishna waters, the Congress government lacked both the competence and the political will to protect the state’s interests. He accused the government of deliberately stalling crucial irrigation projects, particularly the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

“When the BRS government completed nearly 90 per cent of the project work, this government has wasted two full years without completing even the remaining 10 per cent,” he said. He alleged that the failure to submit Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and attempts to dilute the project’s scope amounted to a betrayal of Telangana’s farmers.

On cooperative societies, KTR challenged the Congress government to immediately conduct elections if it genuinely believed it had done justice to the farming community. He alleged that the government was avoiding elections out of fear of public backlash and was instead filling key posts through nominations.

“If elections are held today, farmers will teach the Congress a fitting lesson,” he warned, claiming that widespread anger among farmers and agricultural labourers was already reflected in recent Sarpanch election results.

KTR further accused the government of abandoning key promises such as extending Rythu Bandhu benefits to tenant farmers, providing financial assistance to agricultural labourers, and fulfilling other welfare commitments. He said attempts to target KCR through selective case leaks were aimed at diverting public attention from these unfulfilled assurances.

Calling upon party cadres to remain focused, KTR urged them to emulate Arjuna’s single-minded concentration on the bird’s eye, and to relentlessly question the Congress government over its “420 unfulfilled promises.” He asserted that the BRS would not be intimidated by threats or cases and would continue its fight in the public domain until justice was delivered to Telangana’s farmers.
