Modern Treatment with Sensory Adaptive Dental Environment at Mumbai Govt. Dental College
Modern Treatment Through Sensory Adaptive Dental Environment at Mumbai Government Dental College and Hospital, Department of Pediatric Dentistry
Mumbai, Aug. 12: The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, has implemented the innovative Sensory Adaptive Dental Environment (SADE), offering state-of-the-art treatment. This institution is the only one in the country to adopt such a concept.
Dental treatments often evoke anxiety, especially in children, making it challenging for them to cooperate during procedures. This lack of cooperation can hinder effective treatment and adversely affect children’s oral and overall health.
Scientific studies have shown that providing children with pleasant sensory experiences can calm them and reduce their fears. In response, the Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, has introduced the SADE concept to alleviate children’s dental anxiety and facilitate their treatment.
SADE (Sensory Adaptive Dental Environment) Overview
The Sensory Adaptive Dental Environment (SADE) is a cutting-edge system designed to create a more comfortable experience for pediatric dental patients by addressing their sensory sensitivities.
Key Elements of SADE:
- Lighting Management: Special lighting is used in SADE to create a comfortable atmosphere, avoiding excessively bright or harsh light.
- Sound Control: SADE ensures a soft and quiet auditory environment, helping to reduce patient anxiety.
- Tactile Sensation: The use of instruments is adjusted based on patient sensitivity, resulting in less pain during treatment.
- Ambient Temperature: The temperature in the treatment area is maintained at a level that enhances patient comfort.
- Odor Management: Measures are taken to reduce typical hospital odors, making the environment more pleasant for patients.
Benefits of SADE:
- A comfortable environment helps reduce patient fear.
- It encourages greater patient cooperation, leading to more effective treatment.
- SADE makes dental visits more enjoyable, increasing the likelihood of regular checkups.
- It strengthens the dentist-patient relationship, resulting in improved patient care.
Over the past 15 months, more than 150 children have been treated under the SADE system, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response. A survey revealed that 71% of parents were more satisfied with their child’s treatment, 64% of children found the experience more pleasant, and 95% of parents and children appreciated the overall treatment experience.
Dr. Dimple Padave, Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, has presented on this concept at a national conference and has published a research paper in a reputed journal.
