US-Based Baloch Leader Urges Trump to Back Balochistan’s Struggle, Draws Parallels with Venezuela
Washington, Jan 2026 :A senior US-based Baloch leader has called on former US President Donald Trump to extend the same political and moral support he recently demonstrated toward the people of Venezuela to the people of Balochistan, arguing that both regions are facing exploitation under authoritarian rule.
In a strongly worded post on social media platform X, Dr. Tara Chand, president of the Washington-based Baloch American Congress, said President Trump had “stood with the people of Venezuela against dictatorship” and should now “likewise support the people of Balochistan in their struggle for freedom and justice.”
Drawing direct comparisons between Venezuela’s former leadership and Pakistan’s military establishment, Chand alleged that the situation in Balochistan mirrors what he described as the systematic exploitation of Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro. He claimed that just as Maduro allegedly handed over Venezuela’s natural wealth to China, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir is “selling and mortgaging Balochistan’s vast natural, mineral, and coastal resources to China and other global interests.”
Chand further accused General Munir of acting as a “double agent,” asserting that while Balochistan’s resources are being leveraged to strengthen ties with China, they are also being used as “bait to mislead the United States.” He urged Trump to take what he termed “firm and decisive action” against the Pakistani military leadership, likening such steps to recent US actions against authoritarian figures elsewhere.
In his remarks, Chand went on to draw broader comparisons between the Venezuelan regime and Pakistan’s military, alleging involvement in drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, and severe human rights violations. He also accused Pakistan’s military establishment of exporting “radical Islamic extremism beyond its borders,” which he described as a serious threat to regional and global stability.
Referring to past international controversies, Chand cited the discovery of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, reiterating allegations that elements within the Pakistani military had sheltered him while continuing to receive financial and military assistance from the United States.
Chand also highlighted the long-running security operations in Balochistan, alleging that they have resulted in daily killings, enforced disappearances, and widespread fear among civilians. He described these actions as “crimes against humanity” and asserted that those responsible should be held accountable under international law. “General Munir must be held accountable and arrested, just as dictators elsewhere have been pursued for their crimes,” he wrote.
Emphasising the aspirations of the Baloch people, Chand said they deserve justice, freedom, and the right to determine their own political and economic future. He called on the international community, particularly the United States, to recognise what he described as the legitimate struggle of the Baloch people.
The Baloch American Congress describes itself as a registered political organisation advocating for Baloch self-determination and the protection of the social, cultural, and political rights of the Baloch diaspora in the United States. Dr. Chand is a former cabinet minister in the Balochistan provincial government.
His remarks come amid renewed global focus on human rights, natural resource control, and US policy toward authoritarian regimes following recent developments in Venezuela.
