Operation Sindoor Jets and Bhairav Battalion to Showcase India’s Military Strength on Republic Day
New Delhi, Jan 2026 : India’s Republic Day celebrations this year will feature a striking demonstration of military power and preparedness, as fighter jets that played a decisive role in the recently concluded Operation Sindoor take to the skies over Kartavya Path. Defence experts believe the display will draw international attention, underlining India’s robust response capabilities and its uncompromising stand against terrorism.
Operation Sindoor was launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and marked a swift and forceful response by the Indian armed forces. The operation involved precision strikes on terrorist hideouts and strategic locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). When Pakistan attempted retaliatory action, India responded with greater intensity, clearly establishing operational superiority. The mission showcased the Indian Air Force’s ability to deliver coordinated, high-impact strikes while maintaining escalation control, sending a strong message to adversaries and the global community alike.
On Republic Day, the same fighter aircraft that formed the backbone of Operation Sindoor will headline the ceremonial flypast. A major attraction will be the specially curated “Sindoor Formation,” symbolising the success, resolve, and effectiveness of the operation. Advanced combat aircraft, including Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, Jaguar, and MiG-29 fighter jets, will soar in tight formation over Kartavya Path. They will be joined by several other aerial formations comprising helicopters and transport aircraft, creating a visually powerful and strategically significant spectacle.
Adding to the historic significance of this year’s parade will be the first-ever participation of the Indian Army’s newly raised Bhairav Battalion. These elite light commando units were announced by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi following the success of Operation Sindoor. The battalions have been raised with a focus on speed, surprise, and precision, particularly in challenging terrain and high-risk operational environments.
According to officials, five Bhairav battalions have already been formed, each consisting of approximately 250 highly trained soldiers. The Army plans to raise a total of 25 such battalions within the next six months, reflecting a major structural enhancement in India’s special operations capability. Before making their Republic Day debut in New Delhi, the Bhairav Battalion will also participate in the Army Day parade in Jaipur, marking another milestone in their rapid induction into active service.
This year’s Republic Day celebrations are expected to go beyond ceremonial grandeur. Through the combined display of advanced air power and newly formed elite ground forces, India will project a clear message of military readiness, technological strength, and unwavering resolve to safeguard national security and counter terrorism in all its forms.
