Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Satish Salian, father of the late Disha Salian, on Saturday served a defamation notice on Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray over remarks allegedly made against him in connection with his pursuit of a fresh probe into his daughter’s death.
Salian, accompanied by his lawyer Nilesh Ojha, went to Thackeray’s Matoshree residence to serve the notice. However, the two were not allowed to enter the premises. The legal notice was subsequently accepted outside the residence by Thackeray’s advocate.
The notice, according to Ojha, seeks compensation and damages of Rs 500 crore over alleged defamatory statements made by Thackeray.
Speaking to reporters after the notice was served, Ojha said the move was intended to demonstrate that Salian was prepared to pursue the matter through legal channels. He also alleged that members of the Shiv Sena-UBT had earlier threatened them.
“We have nothing to do with any politics. Now that the notice has been served, answer it,” Ojha said, adding that Salian was pursuing the matter through the legal process.
The defamation notice relates to alleged posts published by Thackeray on his official X account on September 16 in both English and Marathi. According to the notice, the posts contained what Salian’s side described as false, malicious and defamatory allegations concerning his motives and personal enmity in relation to the proceedings and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Disha Salian’s death.
Salian has been seeking further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death. The matter has also involved allegations and counter-allegations between different parties.
Earlier on Saturday, Salian said he was not afraid of anyone in connection with the ongoing developments.
“They are human beings and I am human too. I am from Mumbai, so I have no reason to fear anyone,” he said.
Ojha had earlier stated that Salian had approached the CBI seeking immediate police protection. According to the lawyer, the request covered four people — Salian himself, Ojha, former Narcotics Control Bureau Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede and Ashutosh Pathak.
Ojha said the request was made in view of concerns over their security while pursuing the matter.
The lawyer also made several allegations concerning Thackeray, including claims about alleged links to the drug trade and other serious offences. These allegations were presented by Ojha while speaking to reporters and have not been established as facts in the material provided.
Ojha further referred to previous legal proceedings and claimed that Thackeray’s side had approached a court over some of the allegations but later apologised after an affidavit was found to contain false statements. These claims too remain matters of dispute.
Salian’s legal team has maintained that its actions are not politically motivated and that it intends to pursue the matter through established legal and investigative channels.
The defamation notice now gives Thackeray an opportunity to respond to the allegations and claims contained in the legal communication. Further developments are expected to depend on the responses from the concerned parties and proceedings before the relevant authorities.
