New Delhi, Sept 2026 : The National Rozgar Mela has issued around 12.75 lakh appointment letters across 20 editions since its launch in October 2022, marking a significant expansion of the government’s mission-mode recruitment initiative, according to a government factsheet released on Saturday.
The initiative was launched with an initial target of providing 10 lakh government jobs. Since then, it has evolved into a nationwide recruitment programme aimed at filling vacancies across various ministries, departments and government organisations.
According to the factsheet, the newly recruited personnel have joined several key departments, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Posts, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, and Ministry of Labour and Employment, among others.
The government said recruitment under the initiative is being pursued through a mission-mode approach, with ministries and departments working to fill sanctioned vacancies. The recruitment process is carried out through established mechanisms and designated agencies such as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
The Rozgar Mela initiative also brings together employment, skill development, career counselling and entrepreneurship support, providing young people with multiple pathways to enter the workforce.
According to an official statement, the events facilitate direct interaction between job seekers and employers and help strengthen skill-to-job linkages. The initiative is aimed at expanding employment opportunities while enabling young people to participate in public service and contribute to national development.
The first Rozgar Mela was held in October 2022, when more than 75,000 appointment letters were distributed across 50 locations nationwide.
The government factsheet said the initiative has accelerated public recruitment while creating opportunities for young people to begin careers in government service.
Alongside government recruitment, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) organises Rozgar Melas in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs). Private sector employers are also mobilised to participate and offer employment opportunities to eligible candidates.
The 20th edition of the National Rozgar Mela was conducted on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event through video conferencing and distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly inducted youth appointed to various government departments and organisations.
The government said the continued organisation of Rozgar Melas is helping bring employment, skill development, counselling and entrepreneurship opportunities together while supporting the development of a skilled workforce.
