New Delhi, September 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited youth at the 20th Rozgar Mela on Saturday and address the new appointees through video conferencing.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the newly recruited candidates will participate in the Rozgar Mela simultaneously from 45 locations across the country. They will be joining various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, including the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services and Ministry of Defence.
With the latest edition of the Rozgar Mela, approximately 12.75 lakh young people will have received appointment letters for positions in different government departments and organisations since the initiative began.
The Rozgar Mela is aimed at providing employment opportunities to young people and facilitating their greater participation in the country's development process. The initiative has emerged as a platform through which appointment letters are distributed to recruits selected for various government positions.
The previous Rozgar Mela, held in May, saw the Prime Minister distribute more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly appointed candidates across different government departments and organisations.
In his message to newly appointed employees, Modi highlighted India's growing technological capabilities and the opportunities available to its young population. He said the world was showing increasing interest in India's youth and technological progress.
"The world wants to become a part of India's 'Vikas Yatra'. India is forming partnerships with different countries, and the sole motive behind this is that India's youth get opportunity, employment and confidence, as well as global exposure," the Prime Minister said.
The Rozgar Mela initiative was launched in October 2022, with the first event held in October 2022, and has since been used to accelerate recruitment across government departments. Since October 2023, around 12 lakh recruitment letters have reportedly been distributed through the ongoing initiative.
The government has described the programme as one of its major efforts to expand employment opportunities in the public sector. Individual Rozgar Mela events have frequently involved the distribution of tens of thousands of appointment letters to candidates recruited for different posts.
The 20th edition will once again bring together newly recruited employees from different parts of the country. Besides receiving their appointment letters, the recruits will hear the Prime Minister's address through video conferencing.
The term 'Vikas Yatra' broadly refers to India's long-term development journey, encompassing areas such as economic and policy reforms, infrastructure development, social welfare programmes, technological advancement and other initiatives aimed at national progress.
