Russian Cricket Federation Launches T10 League to Revive Sport in the Country

Moscow, Sept 2026 : In an effort to revive and develop cricket in Russia, the Russian Cricket Federation (Cricket Russia) has launched the Russian T10 League, with four teams competing in a two-day tournament at Luzhniki Stadium on September 19 and 20.

The inaugural competition features Moscow Foxes, Kremlin Stars, Kazan Falcons and St. Petersburg Lions, with a total of seven matches scheduled over the two days, including the final.

Sambhav Jain, Director of the Russian Cricket Federation, said the tournament was conceived as more than a sporting competition and forms part of a broader plan to expand cricket’s reach across Russia.

“The tournament is designed to be more than a sporting competition. It is part of a wider vision to promote cricket across Russia, attract new players and audiences, and create more opportunities for the development of the sport,” Jain said.

He added that 60 players participating across the four teams would get an opportunity to compete, gain experience and showcase their abilities.

The Russian T10 League marks the country’s first structured domestic cricket calendar built around the T10 format. The tournament brings together local Russian players, expatriate communities and members of the South Asian diaspora from its opening edition.

A key objective of the league is to identify and develop homegrown Russian players who can eventually form part of the national cricket pipeline. At the same time, the short-format competition is intended to make the sport more accessible and engaging for new audiences.

The T10 League also represents the first step in the Russia Cricket Development Initiative, which aims to establish cricket as a mainstream sport in the country. The long-term vision includes a strong domestic league, improved cricket infrastructure in major Russian cities and the development of a Russian national team capable of competing internationally.

Jain said the timing of the launch was significant, particularly with cricket scheduled to return to the Olympic Games at Los Angeles 2028. He said a federation-backed, city-based franchise competition could provide Russia with a clearer pathway for developing the sport as associate cricket nations work to strengthen their domestic structures.
