New Delhi | September 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly spreading falsehoods over the tragic death of labourer Gulzar Singh in Punjab. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia strongly criticised Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in politics over the deceased.
Arvind Kejriwal said Punjab is the only state in the country currently fighting a decisive battle against drugs. He said the Bhagwant Mann government is trying to eliminate the drug menace allegedly spread in Punjab during the tenures of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP governments. He asserted that no minister or MLA of the present government had any connection with Gulzar Singh’s death and said Rahul Gandhi should refrain from indulging in such “dirty politics”.
Kejriwal also shared a video on social media platform X showing Congress leaders visiting Gulzar Singh’s village and alleged that they were indulging in politics over the tragedy. Addressing Rahul Gandhi, he said the Punjab government is waging a decisive war against drugs. He asked who brought drugs to Punjab, alleging that the Congress, Akali Dal and BJP governments were responsible. He said that, for the first time, a state in the country was fighting the drug menace on such a scale and that the Punjab government was now trying to clean up the drug problem allegedly created by previous governments.
Kejriwal said he was deeply saddened that a leader like Rahul Gandhi was allegedly engaging in politics over a dead body. He claimed that when Congress MLAs visited the village on Tuesday to politicise the death, local residents drove them away because the allegations made by the Congress leader were “completely false”.
Kejriwal urged Rahul Gandhi to visit the village himself and said that no minister or MLA of the Punjab government had anything to do with Gulzar Singh’s death. He appealed to Gandhi not to indulge in such politics.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, in a post on X, urged Rahul Gandhi not to indulge in politics over the dead and said Punjabis do not like such politics. Sharing a video, Mann said it showed Congress leaders being driven away by villagers when they allegedly attempted to engage in such politics during their visit to the victim’s village.
Mann said police had already arrested all the accused in the case based on the identification provided by the family. He alleged that the Akali Dal, BJP and Congress governments had been responsible for the spread of drugs in Punjab and asserted that no drug trafficker would be spared under his government.
AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia also strongly reacted on X to what he described as false claims being spread by Rahul Gandhi. Referring to Gandhi’s alleged admiration for Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, Sisodia asked whether Gandhi was not ashamed of allegedly spreading falsehoods over the body of a poor Dalit labourer.
Sisodia said Gulzar Singh’s son had stated on camera that no minister had pressured his father. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi neither listened to the son nor read the FIR, but instead used a video of a dying man to attack Punjab.
He accused Gandhi of turning even the death of a labourer into a political issue and said that while claiming to oppose drugs, the Congress leader had allegedly turned the tragedy into an opportunity for political gains. Sisodia demanded that Rahul Gandhi apologise to Gulzar Singh’s son.
