Finn Allen’s Blazing Century Powers KKR to Dominant Eight-Wicket Win Over Delhi Capitals

New Delhi, May 2026 : Explosive opener Finn Allen produced one of the most destructive innings of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, smashing an unbeaten 100 off just 47 balls to guide Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a commanding eight-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.

Allen’s breathtaking innings, studded with five boundaries and ten towering sixes, made light work of a modest target of 143 as KKR chased it down in just 14.2 overs with 34 balls remaining. The emphatic victory marked KKR’s fourth consecutive win and significantly boosted their hopes in the race for the IPL playoffs.

The New Zealand opener found excellent support from Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 33 off 27 deliveries. The pair stitched together an unbroken 116-run partnership off only 64 balls after KKR had briefly lost two wickets.

Earlier, KKR’s bowlers had delivered a disciplined performance to restrict Delhi Capitals to 142/8 in their 20 overs. The spin duo of Anukul Roy and Varun Chakaravarthy applied relentless pressure through the middle overs, while pacer Kartik Tyagi picked up two crucial wickets.

For Delhi, opener Pathum Nissanka top-scored with a patient half-century, making 50 runs, while Ashutosh Sharma contributed a fighting 39 lower down the order. However, the hosts struggled to maintain momentum against KKR’s disciplined bowling attack and could never recover from the regular loss of wickets.

In reply, KKR started aggressively from the very first over. Allen immediately attacked left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc, driving and whipping him for boundaries to signal his intentions.

Despite the early momentum, KKR briefly stumbled when captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed in unfortunate fashion. A sharp return from Starc deflected off his fingertips onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end, resulting in Rahane being run out. Soon after, young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi attempted a sweep against Axar Patel, only for the ball to ricochet off his gloves and onto the stumps.

However, Allen remained completely unfazed. Once Green joined him at the crease, the pair took complete control of the chase. Allen mixed innovation with raw power, effortlessly dispatching bowlers to all parts of the ground. He reached his half-century in just 32 balls with a remarkable scoop shot off Starc over fine leg.

The middle overs belonged entirely to KKR as Delhi’s spin attack came under severe pressure. Kuldeep Yadav was repeatedly targeted, with Allen pulling and lofting him over the boundary, while Green also joined the assault with a massive six over deep mid-wicket.

Leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam endured the harshest punishment when Allen smashed him for three consecutive sixes in the 13th over. The New Zealand batter first launched him twice over long-off before pulling another delivery deep into the stands at mid-wicket.

Allen entered the nineties with another six off Kuldeep and fittingly completed both the chase and his magnificent century in style, hammering Mukesh Kumar over mid-wicket for a towering six.

Delhi’s spinners leaked 102 runs in nine overs while managing only one wicket, as Allen’s sensational innings turned the contest into a one-sided affair.

The comprehensive victory further strengthens KKR’s momentum heading into the final phase of the tournament, while Delhi Capitals now face increasing pressure after another disappointing defeat at home.

Brief Scores:
Delhi Capitals 142/8 in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 50, Ashutosh Sharma 39; Kartik Tyagi 2/25, Anukul Roy 2/31) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 147/2 in 14.2 overs (Finn Allen 100* off 47 balls, Cameron Green 33*; Axar Patel 1/27) by eight wickets.
