Rajkumar Hirani Reveals What Makes ‘Pritam & Pedro’ a Story of Unlikely Bonds
Mumbai, June 2026 : Acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has opened up about the inspiration behind his upcoming series “Pritam & Pedro,” saying that the emotional contrast between its two lead characters was what first drew him to the project.
Known for crafting stories centered on human emotions and relationships, Hirani said the series offered an opportunity to explore contrasting personalities, vulnerabilities and unexpected friendships in an entertaining setting.
Sharing his thoughts in a statement, Hirani said, “What excited me most about this story was the relationship at its heart. Pritam and Pedro come from completely different worlds and see life very differently, but they are forced into a journey together.”
He added that he has always been fascinated by stories that delve into the complexities of human nature and the surprising connections people form along the way.
“I’ve always been drawn to stories about people, their contradictions, their vulnerabilities, and the unexpected relationships they form along the way. This series allowed us to explore all of that while having a lot of fun with the world and characters,” he said.
Created by Rajkumar Hirani and directed by Avinash Arun, the series boasts an ensemble cast featuring Arshad Warsi, Vikrant Massey, Vir Hirani, Mona Singh and Boman Irani.
The makers unveiled the trailer of Pritam & Pedro on Monday, offering audiences a glimpse into a world filled with humor, mystery and emotional depth.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Goa, the series revolves around two unlikely protagonists — Pedro, an instinct-driven old-school cop, and Pritam, a young and tech-savvy expert. Despite their vastly different outlooks on life, circumstances compel them to embark on an unpredictable journey together.
Director Avinash Arun described the series as a story that constantly surprises its audience.
“What attracted me to Pritam & Pedro was its ability to constantly surprise you. It is a story filled with humour and chaos, but also one that is deeply rooted in human relationships,” he said.
According to Arun, the team aimed to create a world that is immersive, entertaining and emotionally resonant, while bringing together a memorable cast of characters.
Arshad Warsi, who essays the role of Pedro, said he was particularly drawn to the character’s carefree and instinctive nature.
“Pedro is one of those characters who doesn’t overthink life; he trusts his instincts, follows his heart and often lands himself in situations he probably shouldn’t be in,” the actor shared.
Meanwhile, Vikrant Massey praised the layered storytelling of the series.
“There is humour, mystery, emotion and a lot of surprising turns. Every character has their own agenda, flaws and journey, which makes the world feel incredibly alive,” he said.
With its blend of comedy, mystery and heartfelt storytelling, Pritam & Pedro promises an engaging viewing experience when it premieres on JioHotstar on July 3.
