BJP President Nitin Nabin Condemns Opposition Disruption During President’s Address

New Delhi, Jan 2026 : Newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin strongly condemned the opposition’s behaviour during President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament on the opening day of the Budget Session on January 28, 2026.

In a statement, Nabin described the actions of the Congress and its allies as “utterly wrong and disappointing.” He emphasised that occasions like the President’s address demand peace, respect, and decorum, but these parties “completely disregarded parliamentary traditions.” Nabin expressed surprise over objections raised to references in the speech that were emotionally charged and patriotic, including mentions of the nation, Bengal’s glorious traditions, and sentiments such as Vande Mataram.

He also noted that the Trinamool Congress joined in the disruption, further contributing to the chaos in both Houses. Writing on his X handle, Nabin highlighted that Parliament represents the highest democratic institution of the country, and any behaviour that undermines its dignity not only breaches protocol but also hurts the sentiments of citizens nationwide. He urged the opposition to apologise to the country and to Parliament and to uphold the respect due to such important proceedings.

The incident occurred while the President’s address focused on India’s achievements, including celebrations marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, progress in railways with Vande Bharat trains, and rural reforms under initiatives like the Viksit Bharat-G RAM G law, aimed at employment guarantees and overall development. Members of the ruling alliance expressed appreciation for the speech, while opposition MPs protested, particularly against certain policy references, leading to sloganeering and repeated interruptions.

The disruption has sparked renewed debate on parliamentary decorum, especially at the start of a session that will include the Economic Survey on January 29 and the Union Budget presentation on February 1.

Nitin Nabin, who assumed office as BJP national president on January 20 following an unopposed election, is a five-time MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur constituency and a former state minister. At 45, he is the youngest BJP national president, succeeding JP Nadda, and has called on all parties to maintain the dignity and decorum of parliamentary proceedings.
