Bail Granted to Pappu Yadav in One Case, MP to Remain in Beur Jail

Patna, Feb 2026 : Independent Member of Parliament from Purnia, Bihar, Pappu Yadav has been granted bail by the Patna Civil Court in one of the cases pending against him. However, the relief is only partial, as he will continue to remain lodged in Beur Jail for the time being due to another case in which bail is yet to be secured.

According to legal sources, Pappu Yadav is facing two separate cases. While the court has approved bail in one matter, his release is contingent upon obtaining bail in the second case as well. Until that process is completed, jail authorities will not release him.

A hearing related to the case was scheduled on February 9 in the MP-MLA Special Court functioning under the Patna Civil Court. However, proceedings could not take place after the court premises were evacuated following a bomb threat. As a result, the hearing was postponed, further delaying legal relief for the MP.

The matter traces its roots back to a 1995 case registered at the Gardanibagh police station in Patna. At the time, when police attempted to arrest Pappu Yadav in connection with that case, around 20 unidentified supporters allegedly tried to obstruct police officials from performing their duty. This led to the registration of an additional case related to obstruction of official work.

More recently, on February 6, Pappu Yadav was in Delhi and returned to Patna later that evening. Upon reaching his residence, he was arrested by the police. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against him at the Buddha Colony police station based on a complaint filed by Station House Officer Pallav.

The FIR alleges that Pappu Yadav and his supporters threatened police personnel during the arrest process. This case remains pending, and Pappu Yadav will have to seek separate bail in this matter to secure his release.

Legal experts say the next hearing in the pending case will be crucial in determining when the MP can walk out of jail.
