Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Inaugurates New GST Bhawan Administrative Building in Pune
Pune : Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurated the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bhawan administrative building in Yerawada by unveiling the cornerstone.
Present at the event were MLA Sunil Tingre, State Tax Commissioner Ashish Sharma, Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase, Special State Tax Commissioner Abhay Mahajan, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Joint Managing Director Rajesh Patil, Public Works Department Chief Engineer Atul Chavan, Additional State Tax Commissioner Dhananjay Akhade, and Umakant Birajdar, among others.
Following the inauguration, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar toured the building’s halls. He was briefed by Chief Engineer Atul Chavan and the architect. During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister provided instructions regarding the furniture, doors, cleanliness, and other aspects of the building’s maintenance.
Also in attendance were State Revenue Joint Commissioner of Pune Division Prakash Pote, Rajendra Adsul, Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department Bappa Bahir, and others.
Features of the New Extended Administrative Building:
The building comprises a ground floor plus four additional floors, with the possibility of adding four more floors in the future. The construction cost was ₹67.23 crore. The total sales tax area of the building is 2,63,825 square feet, compared to the old building’s 1,38,586 square feet. The new building adds 1,15,244 square feet of space, with 95,472 square feet utilized.
The project includes parking facilities for 154 four-wheelers and 400 two-wheelers, a double-storey basement, and updated lounges for officers and staff. It features 160 halls for officers, seating for 600 employees, a spacious, up-to-date meeting hall for 70 people, and two smaller meeting halls. Each floor provides seating arrangements for 150 officers and employees. The ground floor includes a 12,000 square feet archive room, a spacious visitor hall, and four exits.
The original Sales Tax Bhavan was constructed in 1999. With the reorganization of the sales tax department in July 2011 and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax Act, the number of officers and employees is expected to increase by about 30 percent. In September 2011, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar instructed the immediate submission of a proposal for constructing a new administrative building on the eastern side adjacent to the existing building.
