Ladli Laxmi Yojana: Revolutionary Step towards Empowerment for Girls

The Ladli Laxmi Yojana of Madhya Pradesh has played a pivotal role in advancing education, security, and empowerment for girls across the state. Its remarkable impact has inspired other states to initiate similar programs aimed at uplifting the status of girls. With successful implementation and significant positive outcomes, the Ladli Laxmi Yojana has emerged as a unique initiative by the Madhya Pradesh government, dedicated to enhancing the lives and overall development of girls. Launched in 2007, this scheme aims to shift societal perspectives on the value of girls, focusing on promoting their education, health, social security also empowering them to become self-reliant and confident.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, an expenditure of ₹935.8 crore was allocated to the MukhyaMantri Ladli Laxmi Yojana, with an annual estimate of approximately ₹1,000 crore for the scheme. Based on current provisions, around ₹1,313 crore will be needed in 2027-28 for girls reaching the age of 21. To date, around 48.87 lakh girls have been enrolled in the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, receiving scholarships totaling ₹524.91 crore. In the year 2024-25 alone, 1.21 lakh girls have registered, with scholarships amounting to ₹48.88 crore disbursed so far this year.

Projected Financial Impact of the Chief Minister Ladli Laxmi Yojana from 2027 to 2032

Since its inception in 2007, the scheme has registered 40,854 girls this year alone, who are set to reach the age of 21 by 2027-28. The anticipated expenditure includes ₹904.49 crore for scholarships and incentives, and ₹408.54 crore as a lump sum of ₹1 lakh per girl upon turning 21, totaling ₹1,313.03 crore. Similarly, in 2008-09, 1,86,803 girls were enrolled, with ₹1,209.31 crore already allocated in scholarships. Upon these girls reaching 21 in 2028-29, an additional ₹1,868.03 crore will be required, bringing the total estimated expenditure to ₹3,068.38 crore.

In 2009-10, a total of 2,13,874 girls were registered under the scheme, receiving scholarships amounting to ₹1,270.97 crore. Upon their reaching 21 years of age in 2029-30, an additional amount of ₹2,138.74 crore will be disbursed, leading to an estimated total expenditure of ₹3,409.71 crore. In 2010-11, scholarships totaling ₹1,291.39 crore were awarded to 3,05,228 registered girls. When these girls turn 21 in 2030-31, a further ₹3,052.28 crore will be required, with the overall estimated expenditure reaching ₹4,343.87 crore.

Under the Mukhyamantri Ladli Laxmi Yojana, 3 lakh 80 thousand 260 girls were registered in the year 2011-12 and scholarships worth Rs. 1329.26 crore were given. These girls will be given Rs. 3802.6 crore when they complete 21 years in the year 2031-32. A total expenditure of Rs. 5131.80 crore is estimated on this.

Impact of Ladli Laxmi Yojana on other states

Seeing the Ladli Laxmi Yojana of Madhya Pradesh, other states have also started similar schemes to empower girls and encourage their education.

Delhi

The Delhi Government launched the Ladli Yojna which aims to provide financial assistance to girl children at various stages of education and improve their social status.

Uttar Pradesh

Kanya Sumangala Yojana is being run in Uttar Pradesh, which provides financial assistance to meet the education and needs of girls from their birth till marriage.

Bihar

In Bihar, financial assistance is being provided for the education, health and security of girls under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana. This scheme is inspired by the Ladli Laxmi Yojana and follows a similar structure.

Policy reforms by states

Many states have made changes in their policy framework to empower the girl child in view of the success of the Ladli Laxmi Yojana. The focus of these schemes is to provide financial security and education support to the girl child after her birth, thereby securing her future.

Positive attitude towards daughters

Mukhyamantri Ladli Laxmi Yojana has helped in changing the social attitude towards daughters not only in Madhya Pradesh but also in other states. This scheme has been important in changing the perception of daughters as a burden in the society. Other states saw it as an example and adopted such schemes to create a positive environment for daughters in the society.
