“Deputy Speaker Dr. Neelam Gorhe Leads Pune’s Juvenile Delinquency and Traffic Safety Initiative”
Pune: Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe, emphasized the need to prevent juvenile delinquency through education for out-of-school children, training for both children and parents, and implementing necessary measures for traffic planning and road safety.
She spoke during a televised meeting at Sassoon Hospital following a recent accident in Pune. Present were Women and Child Development Commissioner Dr. Prashant Naranvare, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosle, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Senior Police Commissioner Sunil Ramanand, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vijay Khorate, Sassoon Principal Dr. Chandrakant Mhaske, Excise Department Deputy Superintendent Sujit Patil, and District Planning Officer Kiran Indalkar.
Dr. Gorhe stressed the application of the Juvenile Justice Act to treat serious crimes, urging a systematic review to determine its effectiveness. She emphasized the importance of the Child Welfare Committee’s role at the Collectorate in preventing juvenile delinquency and ensuring penalties for serious offenses. She recommended the Municipal Corporation to engage NGOs to bring out-of-school children back to education and proposed implementing the CCTNS system for juvenile offenders in the police department.
To enhance traffic management, she proposed identifying city blackspots and installing CCTV cameras for better monitoring. She also urged advanced planning for traffic control during festivals. Additionally, she requested the Municipal Corporation to submit a report on action against city encroachments and emphasized joint efforts with the Police Department to prevent accidents.
Regarding Sassoon Hospital, Dr. Gorhe advocated for improving citizen satisfaction and transparency through collaboration with reputable NGOs and individuals in the healthcare sector.
She suggested reviewing liquor licensing fees and enforcing strict regulations to prevent underage drinking through one-day licenses. She also emphasized launching a special campaign against illegal liquor sales.
Commissioner Dr. Naranvare highlighted the Juvenile Justice Act’s focus on rehabilitating juvenile offenders and announced upcoming state regulations for dealing with repeat offenders and serious juvenile delinquents.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Bhosle reported actions against unauthorized hotels and encroachments, and initiatives to enhance road design for traffic safety. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar informed about recent meetings on traffic safety and actions taken against blackspots, while Pimpri Chinchwad Senior Police Commissioner Sunil Ramanand discussed measures against ‘drink and drive’ incidents.
Dr. Mhaske highlighted improvements in Sassoon Hospital’s efficiency and patient care, while Additional Commissioner Mr. Khorate and Excise Department’s Mr. Patil provided updates on traffic planning, road safety, and liquor control measures in Pimpri Chinchwad city.
