Udhayanidhi Stalin Inaugurates Chennai Metro Park Under ‘Namaku Naame’ Scheme
Honorable Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin opened and visited the Chennai Metropolitan Corporation Park, which was developed at a cost of 30 lakh rupees by M.O.P. Vaishnav Women’s College under the “Namakku Naame” (We for Ourselves) scheme in Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The “Namaku Naame” scheme was formulated based on the thought of scholar Periyar that people and private institutions should also participate along with the government in the development of Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure. Under this scheme, if the public contributes one part, the Tamil Nadu government will contribute two parts. Based on this, various infrastructure development works are being carried out across Tamil Nadu according to the preferences of the people, with their participation and the government’s two-part funding.
Honorable Chief Minister is planning and implementing projects to make Tamil Nadu the first in all fields across India. To transform Chennai into a “Singara Chennai” (Beautiful Chennai), parks, various overpasses, bridges, gyms, sports stadiums, metro rail, and many such projects are being executed for the people.
Supporting the efforts of the Honorable Chief Minister, M.O.P. Vaishnav College has developed this Chennai Metropolitan Corporation Park under the “Namaku Naame” scheme with 100% contribution worth 30 lakh rupees. This park, located near the college, will be beneficial for the local residents, children, and college students.
As part of this initiative, the park includes a children’s play area, a fitness zone for the elderly, a walking track, benches, a seating area for 35 people, an open-air mini auditorium for cultural events, a rainwater harvesting system, separate restrooms for men and women, waste composting facilities, CCTV surveillance, 24-hour security, and maintenance services. Additionally, the college has taken full responsibility for the park’s maintenance.
Moreover, the college has undertaken a tree-planting initiative, where instead of giving flower bouquets to guests, they present a “Tree Certificate” and plant a tree in the guest’s name and take care of its growth. During this event, the Honorable Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated this initiative by presenting the first “Tree Certificate” on behalf of the college.
The event was attended by the Honorable Minister for Municipal Administration Mr. K.N. Nehru, Chennai Metropolitan Corporation Mayor Mrs. R. Priya, MLA Mr. N. Ezhilan, Deputy Mayor Mr. M. Mahesh Kumar, Corporation Commissioner Mr. C. Kumaragurubaran, IAS, Chief Engineer (Works) Mr. M. Chittarasu, M.O.P. Vaishnav College Principal Dr. Archana Prasad, Deputy Commissioner (Works) Mr. V.
