‘Pakistan Army Lost 35–40 Personnel in Indian Strikes,’ Says DGMO in Special Briefing
New Delhi – In a special press briefing on Sunday, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), revealed that around 35 to 40 personnel of the Pakistan Army were killed during Indian retaliatory strikes carried out between May 7 and 10 under Operation Sindoor.
Lt Gen Ghai stated that the operation was launched with a clear military objective — to punish the masterminds and perpetrators of terror and eliminate their infrastructure without targeting civilian or unrelated military assets in Pakistan.
“Our aim on May 7 was to strike terrorists and their hideouts, not Pakistani military or civilian infrastructure. We achieved this with precision. However, Pakistan retaliated with waves of UAVs and small drones targeting our civilian and military zones. Three drones managed to land but caused minimal damage,” he said.
On the night of May 8-9, Pakistan escalated by flying drones and aircraft into Indian airspace across the western border. These attempts to target Indian military installations were largely unsuccessful. Simultaneously, ceasefire violations resumed along the Line of Control (LoC), leading to fierce engagements between the two sides.
Air Marshal A.K. Bharti also addressed the media, confirming that India conducted targeted strikes on Pakistani airbases, command and control centres, air defence systems, and other military infrastructure along the western front.
“The bases struck include Chaklala, Rafiqui, and Rahim Yar Khan, followed by Sargodha, Bhulari, and Jacobabad. These strikes sent a strong message that aggression will not go unanswered,” Bharti stated.
He emphasized that the focus was not on counting casualties, but on ensuring the complete destruction of terror infrastructure. “We aim to neutralize threats. If there are casualties, it’s for the enemy to count. Our objective is to destroy the target, not count the body bags,” he added.
Operation Sindoor marks one of India’s most significant and coordinated military responses to terror aggression in recent years.
