My Village, My Water Campaign: A New Direction in Water Conservation through Injection Well Technology

Raipur – Under the directive of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, a statewide initiative is being undertaken to conserve and manage water resources. In line with this, Bilaspur district has launched an extensive water conservation and recharge effort through the “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” (My Village, My Water) mega campaign. This plan, implemented under the guidance of District Collector Shri Sanjay Agrawal, began from the village of Amagohan in Kota block during the Su-Shasan Tihar event attended by the Chief Minister.

A key component of the campaign is the rapid adoption of modern Injection Well technology for groundwater recharge. This method plays a vital role in addressing water scarcity in villages and ensuring long-term water security.

What is Injection Well Technology?

Injection wells are systems designed to directly channel rainwater into the underground aquifers. Unlike traditional storage methods, this technique recharges groundwater more effectively. As a result, hand pumps, wells, and ponds can be revitalized. In villages like Amagohan and Sonpuri, injection wells are being built in dried-up ponds, percolation tanks, and small reservoirs. These structures help collect surface and rainwater, filter it, and then channel it underground to raise groundwater levels.

Community Participation Driving Success

The “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” campaign has evolved into a people’s movement. Awareness activities are being conducted by MGNREGA and NRLM teams, focusing on responsible water usage and groundwater recharge. Over the past month alone, 54 check dams have been constructed in streams to slow water flow and enhance local groundwater levels.

Agriculture departments are also promoting low-water-use crops over traditional high-demand crops like paddy, especially in summer months. Meanwhile, inactive borewells across 159 locations are being revived using sand filter technology.

Linking all these activities under the “Mor Gaon Mor Pani” campaign, the district conducted one-day training sessions for around 6,000 participants in the first week of June. Attendees included village sarpanches, secretaries, job assistants, and self-help group members. This unique administrative initiative is fostering widespread awareness and ensuring a water-secure future.
