Maritime Security Is Always a Priority for the Government – Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh RaneMinister Rane Inspects New Patrol Boat at Bhaucha Dhakka

Mumbai : Maritime security is a crucial matter and has always been a priority for the state government, said Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane. Speaking at Bhaucha Dhakka (Ferry Wharf) in Mumbai, Minister Rane stated that an important step has been taken today toward strengthening coastal security with the deployment of new high-speed patrol boats.

During his visit, Minister Rane inspected the newly inducted patrol boat. He was accompanied by Fisheries Commissioner Kishor Tawde, officers and staff of the Fisheries Department, and representatives from the supplier company of the patrol boats.

Minister Rane noted that a drone surveillance security system has already been established along the state’s coastline, and the addition of these high-speed patrol boats will further strengthen the setup. These boats will help curb illegal fishing activities and enhance security along the coastline. Equipped with modern technology, the boats will also ensure the safety of fishermen. A total of 15 such boats are planned for deployment, with five already commissioned.

He also shared that the government aims to launch a Water Metro service in Mumbai by December 2026. This project, he said, is both efficient and beneficial, saving time and money for Mumbai’s commuters.

The advanced patrol boats can accommodate up to 15 personnel, including marine police officers. Each boat is powered by two 250 HP Suzuki engines, enabling speeds of up to 30 nautical miles per hour. Outfitted with radar, transponders, and a rapid response system, these boats are built by Drishti, Cruise, and Ferries Co., and made entirely of fiber. Each vessel measures over 13 meters in length and has a fuel capacity of 900 liters.
