CM Rekha Gupta Leads Yoga Session by Yamuna on International Yoga Day

Mass participation across Delhi highlights yoga’s role in health, nature, and civic consciousness under the theme ‘One Earth, One Health’

New Delhi – Marking the 11th International Day of Yoga, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a large-scale yoga session at the Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club on Friday morning, set against the serene backdrop of the Yamuna River.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of yoga practitioners and the presence of several prominent leaders, including Minister Parvesh Verma, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Minister Kapil Mishra, and Delhi Assembly Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht.

Addressing the gathering, CM Rekha Gupta spoke about the symbolic and ecological significance of the Yamuna. “As I stood by this flowing river, I was reminded of my sense of duty,” she said. “Just as the Yamuna flows steadily here, we must ensure that it flows with the same vitality and cleanliness throughout Delhi.”

The event formed part of the nationwide ‘Yoga Sangam’ initiative, a campaign led by the Ministry of Ayush to promote holistic health through mass yoga participation across the country.

Across the capital, similar sessions were held to mark the day. Minister Parvesh Verma conducted a parallel yoga session at Thyagaraj Stadium, while Minister Ashish Sood joined practitioners at Chhatrasal Stadium. Surajmal Vihar’s Yamuna Sports Complex also hosted a lively session of yoga postures and meditation exercises.

At Qutub Minar, one of Delhi’s most iconic heritage sites, a large crowd gathered for a collective yoga demonstration, visually reinforcing the 2025 theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health.’

These celebrations were part of a broader national movement led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who presided over a central event in Visakhapatnam. More than 1 lakh locations across India conducted synchronised yoga sessions, with an estimated 2 crore people participating nationwide.

Now in its 11th year, the International Day of Yoga has grown into a global observance, celebrated across countries and cultures. India continues to lead this global effort, advocating yoga not just as a wellness practice but as a way of life rooted in mindfulness, harmony, and sustainability.

The 2025 theme highlights the essential connection between individual health and planetary well-being—core principles that continue to drive India’s vision of global unity through traditional wisdom.
